The big problem for the Ds is the senate where the majority of all of the D Senators up for reelection needed Obama running for reelection too to get the D base energized enough for them to win. They are not necessarily bad people but they do tend to be very boring and not very good campaigners.

And just how long a "wait-and-see" period do you feel is warranted before we declare them a failure? Just how many billions are you prepared to spend bailing out sectors of the economy?

While we're being mindful, shall we point out that the GOP was once supportive of free trade and opposed to tariffs?
That's a reasonable question. I think we'll know in a year or so how it's going.

And indeed the "free traders" were in the GOP tent, while the "protectionists" (who wanted "fair trade") were Democrats. The pendulum swings. I refer you to the parens up top. Trump isn't boosting tariffs for revenue, and has repeatedly averred that he would rather have no tariffs. Maybe that's not quite the fantasy Obama's nuke-free world was, but it's surely second.

As framed by detractors, "trickle down economics" means enrich the wealthy and see if any crumbs drift down our way. I'm not carrying water for Zuckerberg & pals, but what I've seen is ordinary class resentment turns into a jihad against "corporatists," and eventually profits in general.

But you will not have prosperity without profits. Prosperity requires the creation of wealth.
Creation of wealth is not the issue. The issue is that wealth being hidden away in tax shelters, used for speculation on the stock market, or packed into hedge funds where it does little but further enrich those who are already prosperous. We were sold the Trump Tax Cuts on the promise that the money pilfered from the national coffers would go into business investments like new equipment or upgrades, pay raises and bonuses, and loads of new jobs.

Instead, they've gone into stock buybacks, into speculation, and into tax shelters. The one-time bonuses did nothing to disguise that wage increases have been little and few, while the job creation is set to be swamped out by those lost to Trump's trade war.
Au contraire! Wealth creation is most certainly the issue. Prosperity is not a zero sum game, in which you take their "fair share" from great, hidden pile the Greedy Rich have squirreled away.

Again, a pendulum is involved, but the urge to redistribute is the heart of socialism, communism, and indeed all forms of autocracy.

Could you have picked less appropriate examples? Edwards dropped out once the evidence became public of his affair and love child. Moore not only kept running, but he had the support of the GOP right up until the very end. The DNC dropped an adulterer like a hot stone, while the GOP hemmed-and-hawed about why they couldn't abandon a paedophile.
Those were the days....

Moore wasn't an "outlier," he was a prime example of the GOP's embrasure of absolutely lunacy in full bloom. And he wasn't dropped, he lost a close race in a state where the GOP should have been able to run a bag of cement and win 50% of the vote. They made a big show of cutting off money to him, but when it looked like he still had a chance in the last weeks, the quietly turned the tap back on to the total silence of the media.

My, how things change when the color of the president's skin does...
Oh, it's racism? What a crock of shit, CdrMike.

Anyway, outliers lose general elections, such as Christine O'Donnell in CT. This time I boldly predict Stacey Abrams will lose in GA. Same problem.

Between the Chinese trying to reopen trade negotiations and the amount of left leaning required of incumbents in "safe" D seats the professional D pols act like it is time for Panic.
