Poland and the US have reached an agreement in principle to install a controversial American missile defence system on Polish soil.
In return for hosting part of the shield, the US has said it will help bolster Poland's air defences.
The US wants to install interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic.
Russia opposes the project, saying it would destabilise global security and undermine its own nuclear deterrent.
Well well well. What's people's opinion on this? Good or bad?
I personally think Poland is playing with fire and just trying to rub Russia's nose in the dirt - which is an extremely dangerous position.

Lol. I doubt that is the reason at all. When all thes other nations have the power to wipe out all life on the planet, you would want in on it as well. This is just America trying to increase their power, and Poland would be the poor sap thinking that its getting the good end of the deal.

It's absolutely unnecessary and a complete waste of resources. Of course, it's not like our current administration hasn't let that stop them before, or made congress step in the administrations way.

Tharagor, got anything to back this up other than your opinion?

Look to the side of Poland and what country do you find? Russia a government funded by old warlords of the KGB and growing powerful by day. Russia is a country to be watchful of but so is China. I think the US government is more scared of Russia then China because in the Area where Russia is the countries that are around them are either poor or struggling.

Really? What is the evidence?
Look to the side of Poland and what country do you find?
And your point would be?
Of course Poland is afraid of Russia and has good historical for this. But the question is whether helping the US in this venture of doubtful operational effectiveness will create more problems than it solves.
Presumably Warsaw is trying to get in good with the Americans. As if the US wouldn't throw Poland to the dogs if push came to shove.

definitely true that poland has a historical basis to be wary of russia. like most things, though, i believe this is more related to economics than security. and, i don't see how this agreement lends itself to destabilization whatsoever. russia still has a horde of crusty old nukes to hit western nations with.
all poland is doing is accepting a free handout from our military-industrial establishment. (not to mention that this will create new jobs for the polish.) if someone offered me some free goodies, i'd take them, and too bad if my neighbor is jealous.
