I guess this is the best place for this thread altho the definition says this place is for fun and Jovial things...I believe its good to have places to discuss and debate topics.. topics of whatever.. politics, love, anything that may interest a person..
I just want to add my 2 cents that its also sad when a person can't just accept a persons opinion and stress there opinions back without getting nasty.. I don't agree with everyone.. nor do I agree with anyone on everything.. I don't think anyone would, thats why we are all our own selfs.. I also would not expect the same from others.. No one will agree with me on everything and everyone will have a different view point concerning what I may say/believe..thats America.. heck.. thats the world or atleast should be I think..
On that Note.. I want to thank a member here for showing me what I am glad to not be.. a member here by the name of December has decided to call me names and Im not totally sure as to why except that my posts aren't something he/she likes to read. I certainly don't agree with everything December says on his/her posts but I have yet to call anyone on this forum a defamatory name.. I think if you read someones post and don't agree or do agree.. Post back your feelings.. thats what the forum is here for.. But its not here to call others names other then the name they go by here or slander them!! I have gave my rep for December now concerning him/her going off topic and just calling or "asking" me if Im a troll...and Im sure because of it.. I will get a Negative rep back from him/her..thats fine.. Atleast I know I'm not ever going to stoop down to that level! Have fun everyone and Huggz to all here.. Even you December

Say what you want in the rep section, but keep it sorta clean.

Calling names and insulting with personal attacks on the forum board should be reported to the staff with the little "report" button on the lower right.

I would suggest that personal attacks, particularly if they bother the person receiving them, should be reported. If the attacks continue and you simply want the person gone altogether then place them on ignore.

Any chance of a paragraph break in there? It's hard to read.

I totally agree with cronic! I was in another forum and it got out of control. Forums can be fun if you want them to be.

I think that's the main reason most people leave a forum, KBKJ. Insulting and name calling happens from time to time, but when it takes over the entire forum, it's no fun for anybody.

Thanks! You've been a great addition but my favorite thing is your dog. The little tough guy, bug eyed chihuahua looking thing is too cute!

Eh, I'm a mod so I don't really care.

I'm totally with you on the issue Cronic; when I started finding myself responding in kind to the insults and vulgarity on a previous board, it bothered me enough to realize it was time to leave.

I was beginning to get this eerie deja vu feeling I was back in first grade recess. :sadly:

Most of the people here left their previous forum home because of uncontrolled name-callers. They were legion at the place I left and condoned by the admins because the admins thought that if they cracked down then people would leave. What they failed to understand is when they didn't crack down, half the forum left. Today that forum is a dead shell of what it once was.

We had 92 members check in here today. That old forum had 7.

Name-callers killed it.

Yeah, I tried that place, ECW.

Granted, my views are umm...unusual, they didn't have to be rude.

It ain't like I was advocating torture or pedophilia...

Here, we can disagree civilly, but the ad hominems will be FPed...

I must say, I really like the FP idea[1]; rather than mods having to continually admonish and babysit users through the length of a thread or be forced to perform a lockout, FP allows the mods here to swiftly move the conversation to "the basement" to let the users carry on at will unmoderated.

It dovetails nicely with natural human behavior, also, in that just stopping a fight/debate cold doesn't stop the animosity and discord, which will often re-ignite at some later place and time. Having FP allows people to "duke it out" until they get tired - of themselves, the topic, or their FP %.

 for having it.

[1] The other debate site I've visited does not have this

I agree lets keep it clean but remember December hates a certain country (Israel). I have had some problems with a fellow here who I disagree with on everything but I don't go calling him names. Now If I met this guy on the street I'd probably knock him out but thats a different story.

Which is how adults who disagree on issues respond instead of the 8 year old mentality of name calling and personal insults. Even if you vehemently disagree with another posters beliefs, he is still entitled to be addressed in a respectful manner.

Wasn't it Voltaire who said "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."?

Granted, we all have certain issues which we are passionate about and it is easy, after a bad day at work, to 'kick the dog' by lashing out.

Which is why we have FP. It allows those occasional rants. It is only when the temper tantrums are literally ocurring in every forum on a board that I lost patience and leave.

There is a grade school 5 miles up the road from where I live. If I wanted that type of atmosphere and discussion, I would simply visit the playground during lunch.

Very well said, sam.
