Hey Homes. Sorry I can't stick around. The spelling police have already e-mailed me about me using the term "dimocrats" and I just now read a poster complaining about the same thing. Screw these uptight socialists. If you find another site more amenable to the rules of free speech let me know.[hr]And annethesia......bite me.
I applaud this forum for the very civility you dislike. This isn't about free speech.
It's called common courtesy. One of the reasons I left the 'other place' was because of the total disrespect posters had for someone who differed in opinion and the ensuing profanity and name calling.
At least from this newbie, kudos for keeping this a civil forum of discussion and
not a grade schoool school yard bickering contest.

Ya' know...every forum has its little rulez.
And one of this place's strictures is to use the correct name for your opponents, be it party, politician or DF member.
That's not so bad, 'cause it keeps the insults down to a manageable level.
We come here to argue, not insult, right?
We come here to argue, not insult, right?
Exactly. I think you can express totally different viewpoints without resulting to personal insults. Have you ever watched a debate where the opponents relied on personal insults to validate their arguments??

I'm beginning to get it now. You are allowed to have little graphics and posters that someone else created that express hate and use slurs...but you just can't type those expressions yourself. Is that how it works?
I've seen some pretty offensive anti-American and politically offensive avatar art posted here...which is fine by me, if that's what your political stance is...but I can't believe some of you have "admonished" some of my friends for saying something like "bubba!" Tell me that didn't really happen.

If anyone bothered to pay attention rather than bitch and moan and complain, they would have read one of the umpteen times that the administrators here explained why they have this rule. If you use the incorrect name, whether it be Chimpy or Bubba, the search engines do not connect it with the political figure. If you use their correct name, it does and it thereby generates more traffic for the website. You can dislike the rule all you want, but stop making it into a one-sided censorship issue that it is not.
As for your friends, if one relatively minor correction drives them from a forum, I suggest they grow tougher skin. As far as I can tell, you all must be used to being able to say and do anything you want if being asked to use correct terms and names. A private forum does not HAVE to let you do anything you want. I like this forum for the fact that it *does* have relatively easy to follow rules.

And yet, that is the rational for the rule and it is not a hard rule to follow. You do not have to like it, but give me a break if you all think this rule is sooooo horrible.
Like I said, you all must be used to being able to do and say what ever you wish. This is not that forum. Every forum has their own rules and that happens to be this one.

I'm kind of amused as to how thin skinned some of my fellow posters from the other board have become. I have read a few threads and I don't see a lot censorship here at all. I do see some common decency which is a breath of fresh air. You have to know that at the other board (in another land, far, far away) the conservatives were in the overwhelming majority. They are not use to be on the receiving end of being called to task and it seems their feelings get hurt rather easily.
(That is, with the exception of Easy 90, who managed to be an equal opportunity employer and p*ss off everyone.... :nana:
He's got a knack for that kind of thing, but his posts are good.)
Some people had to go back and return to their comfort zone where they were in the majority. They obviously could not withstand what some of the liberals and moderates withstood for quite a while.
Funny that.
I left after 10 years when it became obvious that things had changed and that there were now going to be two different sets of rules and criteria dependent on the individuals and their beliefs. That doesn't work for me.
That being said, I do think they should return to their board and enjoy themselves. I plan to explore a couple boards myself but following people over here is kind of lame. Of course, that is just my opinion.
Hope that clears some of this up.

At best, ole Lucky is a moderate with maybe leanings toward the left. Neither she nor I see things in black and white, but always shades of grey.
And somehow, that has come to mean something undesirable.
Black and white is simple and comfortable easy. Grey is not. Dought of once whas was once held as as inaliniable beliefs is not.

...but I can't believe some of you have "admonished" some of my friends for saying something like "bubba!" Tell me that didn't really happen.
It really didn't happen. It wasn't over the use of Bubba. Liberals get warned if they use Dubya, Chimpy or any other name but Bush......so it's an equal opportunity rule. It was over calling him something else. I won't reveal what was said in PM, other than me telling him how to use the phrase he wished to use and not break a rule that we enforce on both sides of the political aisle. He wasn't given a warning, he wasn't issued points. It was just a friendly PM explaining what's what. He decided to leave, instead of discussing as you chose to do........and I thank you for that Easy90.[hr]

Firstly, there was no such long-winded, in depth explanation, Anne. Secondly Lily lied when she said it didn't happen. Now that I understand the rules, I might very well come back and participate.
Just as soon as Lily apologizes for lying. The entire exchange is still in my trashcan, if you'd like to read it. Before get back into the swing of things, I'd just like to know (With a painful degree of specificity) which avatars and which signatures I can use.
If you want traffic and hits, I can bring them. Of course, some people around here might need to grow some tougher skin.
Whad'ya say? Let's make a go of this forum. I can forgive and forget. Let's just write this whole off as a big mis-understanding brought about by an overly-enthusiastic mod with a selective memory.

Sorry. When I was admonished for using the universally-recognized nick-name "Bubba", I was informed in no uncertain terms by Lily that such disrespect for elected officials was a serious matter here.
CLEARLY that is not the case.
I don't usually piss on an Introduction thread (which is intended to welcome new posters to the board) but I will make an exception this time since it is my signature that you are whining about.
You will notice that the line is "the crew of the USS Chimpy." It is the reference to the imaginary ship and the crew thereof that gets around the rule. Were that not the case, I would have been admonished (as I have been regularly) for breaking that rule #12. No such admonishment has been issued nor will it be. Reading the rules before you post in a new forum is always a good idea.
I'm beginning to get it now. You are allowed to have little graphics and posters that someone else created that express hate and use slurs...but you just can't type those expressions yourself. Is that how it works?

If you think that signature is anti-American, hang around. There's more where that came from. Sorry that your concept of the First Amendment looks to be limited to those who agree with you politically. Most of us here do not think being contrary is anti-American and are not as easily offended as you appear to be.
Adios, leftist hypocrites!
