I heard a whisper "raise taxes" which Romney repeated while answering a question. I thought, who's whispering to him? Did he have an earpiece in?

Why does he have to cheat? Can't he think for himself?

It's not fair to take a video like this out of context and accuse Romney of cheating. False accusations seem to be a trend these days. All of a sudden someone starts a rumor, and everyone follows blindly. Maybe it's the Jerry Springer type drama that alot of people thrive on. I'm a firm believer in the practice of being innocent until you are proven guilty. This country's legal system in based on that notion, even though the rumor mills still seem to fuel the fire when falsly accusing someone.
Sure, many people believe that he may have an earpiece on, and someone is whispering to him. I can see how someone can think that. So let's put this video in it's proper context and watch the Anderson Cooper segment that explains what happened. Cooper explains that MSNBC said it was a "microphone malfunction...an open mike and nothing more". If you understand what that means, then it makes perfect sense. If you don't understand what that means, then it's best to get the facts straight before you go off and crucify him. Watch for yourself:

FYI For an earpice to be able to amplify sound loud enough for the microphone to pick it up, it would cause serious damage to Romney's ear. In addition, a podium microphone is designed to be close proximity, in order to avoid picking up extra ambient sound.
Of course, many of you will continue to believe that he cheated. If so, I guess MSNBC is guilty of covering it up for him. Wow, that sounds like a conspiracy, doesn't it? :madlaugh: Maybe people should think for themselves instead of following the lynch mob.

Just another stupid, blown-out-of-proportion nothing that the media tries to turn into a major "OMFG!!!" What a bore. But, as I have said before, this is election year and anything and everything goes.

Pookie, this kind of comment is why we adore you. It is honest and doesn't automatically buy the spin being tossed out in the OP.
Romney didn't repeat it as Viola asserted either, he said in this very video "I'm not gonna raise taxes."

Yeps, like always the major issues in this election which are of dire importance and will greatly effect the future of this nation are:
1. Likeability
2. Inevitability
3. Fund Raising Goals
4. Seeming Presidential
5. Speaking Skills
6. Ability to pretend you are writing your own speeches despite having speech writers and strategists on the payroll

Cooper explains that MSNBC said it was a "microphone malfunction...an open mike and nothing more". That is exactly what it sounded like to me, even before I heard the explanation.
Some people think that the mosquitoes in their back yard are actually robot CIA drones too, so....

Hang on, Pres...do you mean that those squadrons of mosquitoes in my back yard ARE NOT drones??? :)
Can you hear me now?

MSNBC, the host of the debate, took the wind out of your sails here Viola. Give it a rest already.

I just want to know who said it. When I heard it during the debate it seemed weird. Like someone was cueing Romney on how to answer. Who was helping him and why does he need help?

You yet again, when presented with what actually happened, are looking for a scandal that doesn't exist.
MSNBC says that it was a mike left open. Why are you determined to try to forge a scandal from such a flimsy and debunked premise? Did you miss Anderson Cooper presenting what MSNBC said happened?

Lets also not leave out what the network itself had to say about the incident. Link (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22848324/)
While the buzz over the incident was loud enough that Brian Williams, Russert’s co-moderator and anchor of “NBC Nightly News,” felt the need to weigh in, the grassy-knoll types will be disappointed. Romney’s innocent, the network said.
Domenico Montanaro, an NBC News political researcher, wrote on the network’s political blog, First Read: “After reviewing the tapes, NBC determined that an open mic[rophone] picked up a whisper from the audience.
“It is unclear who it is that says it, but it was not said by any of the candidates, was not heard in the hall and, more importantly, not heard by the candidates.”

Ahhh .. the whisper said "raise taxes". Romney stated " I certainly wouldn't raise taxes."
If it was coaching, shouldn't they have been saying the same thing? I think it is more important to focus on what Romney said that some ghost whisper.
By the way, in my opinion, he nailed that debate, with what he said.

Viola, it sounded that you wanted more than to know who said it. You actually accused him of cheating and not being able to think for himself. Not fair when we jump the gun with accusations of something without knowing all the facts, wouldn't you agree?

To think that Romney, of all people, needed a cue to support not raising taxes in a GOP debate while everyone is running to the right and catering to the Conservative vote, is just preposterous.
Thank God for the whispered prompt, Romney was a heartbeat away from proposing to raise the top taxable rate to 70%, doubling capital gains tax, and turning Silicon Vally over to the Federal Government...whew, that was close!
Might have hurt is campaign.

I think Mitt is the Republican's best shot...but the recent vids of him trying to pander to Blacks are really excruciating to watch. "Who let those dogs out! Whom? Whom?" and "your baby looks like he has some bling, bling.." Oh man! Shut-UP!
On the bright side, re: Mitt's religion...In a dramatic reversal of doctrine, I understand that as of a few years ago...Mormons now officially recognize that Blacks possess souls...just like Whites. Isn't THAT special?
