Steve Scully: This is a political question in terms of how he gets the nomination, but just from what you have seen, how much support do you think he has among the base of the Republican Party?

Roberta McCain: I don’t think he has any. I don’t know what the base of the Repub–maybe I don’t know enough about it, but I’ve not seen any help whatsoever.

Scully: So can he then go on and become the nominee of this party?

McCain: Yes, I think holding their nose they’re going to have to take him.

Scully: Can you explain?

McCain: Well, everything they’ve done and said. … Now I’m really popping off, but he worked like a dog to get Bush re-elected. …He’s backed Bush in everything except Rumsfeld. Have you heard other senators and congressmen backing Bush over eight years? Find me it–give me a name. I’ve not seen any public recognition of the work that he’s done for the Republican party.

It's always nice to see people I thought were long dead come out and say things like this.

That's hilarous Zo!
Good job.
Where is this in the media?
She hits it on the head, except that...He’s backed Bush in everything except Rumsfeld. He's been sticking his thumb in the eye of the GOP and Bush for years.
Being one of only two reps to vote against Bush's tax cuts is just one example.
I'd be willing to send Roberta the rest of them, if she wants.

I will say it again, Conservatives distrust and hold immense animus towards McCain.
Her statement doesn't even scratch the surface, but she was smart enough to know that her son doesn't have their support.[hr]BTW, this post makes up for "Zombie Reagan", almost...[hr]I've thought about the media strategy when it comes to McCain.
They are now propping him up as the "new definition" of the GOP or Conservatism, because he sides with the moderates and libs on occasion.
If he ever gets the nomination, which is a slim chance unless the libs gets their way, the press will immediately start dumping on him as a turn-coat to the GOP and conservatives for the same reason they are touting him today.
They will start chiding any conservative for supporting him because he is a phony and not worthy of our vote...classic media vote suppression.

If anyone actually think that the MSM is endorsing McCain to win the general is a fool. They are endorsing him to win the nomination so they can destroy the GOP, and McCain will just "Heh, Heh... " right along with it.
He's being duped by the left. The real danger is that the rest of America might be as well.

The Republicans are more fractured than they would like you to know. It's ok though, the public knows they are and that's what is important.
