I'm Derek.. from Ohio.. 44 years old and single ( hates saying divorced )..lol..its nice to meet you all.. I think I just found the forum web browsing.. Im really glad I did to.. seems like a nice place to express views and read others.. Im disabled and tryin to get by but its hard and very different for me not working. I was a factory worker all my life so learning something besides factory work is proving to be a challenge for me but i won't give up. In saying that I gotta say I spend alot more time on my computer trying to pass the time of day,
( anyone know how to make money from home on a computer please let me now..lol..). Altho I cant sit for long periods so I have to move around a bit as slow as I am. still, No Pity party's here.. I'm happy I'm alive and grateful for all I have acquired in life as well as my wonderful daughter and parents. whats life like in all you all's neck of the woods?..Looking forward to meeting some friends!!
Welcome! Been reading some of your posts and I think you're going to fit right it. Glad you found us.

very very cool.. yes.. nap is like 20 mins from me.. really close.. sounds just like my dad.. 2 bottom plows and horses as a kid.. altho dad tells me his dad was the first in the area ( hicksville ) to get a steel wheeled tractor.. I would hope.. he was born in the 1880's..lol.. defiance is also very historic.. one of the main forts during the indian wars and davy crockett spent a little time in defiance.. our public library is awesome for history

Hello.
( anyone know how to make money from home on a computer please let me now..lol..).
Have you seen MTurk (http://www.mturk.com)? Its a reputable site (associated with amazon.com.) People/companies put up HITs, as they're called, for various things. You really aren't going to make a fortune, but some of the projects are interesting. Geospacial Vision ones, for instance, is a string of photos (20-30) taken from a car on which you mark various features (curbs, signs, etc.) They're using that data to train an AI to recognize those things, so you could be contributing to someday helping to have cars that drive themselves.
There's also a lot of transcription work available. Some of its pretty interesting: one series that I transcribed in particular was neat, as it was interviews of pageboys in Washington from the 20's, 30's and 40's. They'd talk about events they saw, getting to meet FDR, etc. Educational and you make a few bucks. (Of course, most of the transcription work kind of sucks - nothing funner than trying to transcribe a schoolboard meeting where 10 people keep talking at once... *clicks the 'return HIT' button*)
Anyway, since you asked, I thought I'd mention it.

Dang, Drocket! I never heard of that! I'm going to look into it. I only work four days a week so I might be able to scratch up a little extra. Great suggestion. Can you tell us any more about it?

Not sure how much more there is to tell. They can pay you either through direct deposit in a checking account or via amazon.com gift certificates. I believe there's a $25 or so minimum for the direct deposit option.
The best forum I've found related to MTurk is Turker Nation (http://turkers.proboards80.com/). Its not too active, generally, as MTurk isn't really a very well advertised or known service, but you'll generally find a lot of information there about things, and people to answer questions.
The best 'employer' when it comes to transcription is, IMO, CastingWords. They've been around for a couple years now, pay pretty quickly (a day or two usually), and have a fairly well-organized system. Other transcription companies come and go on MTurk. Usually they don't pay as well, sometimes don't pay at all, and tend to be fly-by-night organizations.
You're probably not going to make too much money on MTurk. Its not exactly a way to get rich quick... The transcriptions are usually the easiest way to make money, but even if you do a good job and get a decent bonus (CastingWords rates your work and pays accordingly), you're generally only looking at $2.50 for an hour's work (10 minutes of audio.) Still, its fairly easy, and a way to make some extra cash when you don't have anything else to do at 3AM when you can't sleep :)
