Lieberman files to run as an independent (http://washtimes.com/national/20060809-011233-5268r.htm)

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman filed petitions today -- hours after his loss in the Democratic primary -- to get on the November ballot as an independent, while national Democrats came out in support of the race's winner.
Two top Senate Democrats said they "fully support" the Democratic nominee, Ned Lamont.
"The perception was that [Mr. Lieberman] was too close to George Bush, and this was, in many respects, a referendum on the president more than anything else," said Sens. Harry Reid of Nevada and Charles E. Schumer of New York, the party's leader and the head of its campaign committee.
Connecticut Democrats gathered for a late-morning rally in Hartford to complete the unity portrait.
Mr. Lieberman had other ideas.
His campaign delivered two boxes of petitions to the secretary of state's office in Hartford, and aides said the three-term Connecticut senator had more than enough petitions to qualify for a spot on the November ballot.
If approved, that would set up a three-way race for the fall among Mr. Lamont, Mr. Lieberman and Republican Alan Schlesinger, who has trailed far behind both Democrats in the polls.
...
The more radical the Democrats become, the farther to the left the Republican Party moves to chase after Democrat voters.
This will be interesting if the Surrender Monkey candidate Lamont, wins. Will the Red Queen alter her chickenhawk stance to capture more Deaniacs in the primaries? What will this do the John Papercut Purpleheart Pansy Kerry campaign? Will Republicans start courting the surrender monkey vote - in moderation, of course?

I hope that it serves to suppress Democratic base participation in the fall elections. It certainly upsets the applecart with swing votes. It's a whole new ballgame.

Actually I see the potential for the Republicans to move to their traditional stances which they have slowly but unquestionably moved away from since 1994.
Neither Bush is a conservative. They did not and do not see themselves as leaders of a conservative movement as Reagan did.
With as far left as the moonbats have moved the Democrats yesterday the best option is not for Republicans move to the left but the right.
Conservative ideas win. They always win. They also always work. Unfortunately not enough candidates seem interested enough in running on them. I think the backlash from this has the chance to be both severe and profound in shaping American political life.

The problem is that anyone espousing "conservative" values, or even better, libertarian values, creates a immunological response (as opposed to a logical response), and all the anti-bodies in the media rush to the point of heresy and start doing the intruder dance. The candidate's message is lost in the hilarity.

I'm just curious.....if this was a Republican, using Republican money to get re-elected, then knowing that his re-election might be in danger, changes his mind in mid-campaign (but still uses Republican money), and says if I don't get elected as a Republican......I'm going to run as an Independent........would all you be saying the same thing?

I'm confused - I though that the phrase 'surrender monkey' was an insult to French people.

Lily, you know he wouldn't. When a neo-con beats out a moderate Republican in a primary, no one says "boo" about it. It's standard fare for the GOP. It's why moderate after moderate is bailing out on the neo-con led GOP and becoming Democrats.
Calling Democrats "surrender monkeys" is his way of covering up for the neo-cons abundance of Chickenhawks in their midst. It explains why Democrats can go to war and fight for this country and have Republicans criticize them for it even though they didn't have the balls to go themselves. From Rush to Chimp Boy, Chickenhawks all.

Looks like ECW has his head up his ass.
Lily, of course I'd say the same thing. Just because Democrats are worse doesn't mean Republicans are any better.

A surrender monkey is anyone who wants to be like the French, ie, someone who wants to wave the brown and yellow BVD's before the battle is over, like the Democrats.
ECW........what I'm getting a kick out of is all the Republicans falling all over themselves to say how great a Democrat is! Now that's something you don't see everyday!

I don't see any posts on this thread saying anything about the greatness of Democrats. Not even Democrats are that dishonest, are they?
Nathan.....did I say anything about this thread, or the greatness of Democrats? I'm speaking of Lieberman and Republicans in general.

I don't know anyone personally that's ever had anything good to say about the ole Loserman, especially not after he flip-flopped on practically every position he'd ever held when he was pimping for Al Gore, but I don't expect anything less of the professional whores that get themselves elected or have jobs in the media.
I thought maybe you were talking about real people.
Looks like ECW has his head up his ass.
Looks like Nathan Brazil is just another neo-con namecaller that could not offer anything constructive to a thread on this board without calling one of his opponents a name or offering up an insult in lieu of intelligent debate.
See, Lily? Neo-con namecallers are the same in every board: lack of cogent ideas, plenty of insults to go around. No wonder they idolize people like Rush and Coulter and Malkin. Birds of a feather.

No, just the politician in Washington. I guess you're right, they aren't real people......they're puppets.

You're going to ruin my reputation if we keep agreeing!

Here's another truth, Mayberry. Blaming politicians for our problems is baloney. The problem is the American people. We get the politicians that we as a people want. The politicians do what we as a people want them to do. If politicians read the polls and found that 56% of the people thought that politicians should wallow naked in the mud, oinking like pigs, the next time it rained you wouldn't get your feet muddy 'cause every puddle would have at least one naked politician in it, oinking away.

Seems like the surrender monkeys in the GOP are surrendering their own candidate to vote for a life long Democrat, a Democrat who ran on the same ticket as Al Gore, no less.
Calling Democrats "surrender monkeys" is his way of covering up for the neo-cons abundance of Chickenhawks in their midst. That’s right. Chicken Shit Hawks include Rumsfeld, 5 deferment Cheney, and W himself, who bravely defended the skies of Texas from a possible invasion by Arizona. Amongst the brave “bring it on” pundits out there, you mention Rush but don’t forget Bill Oreilly.
And I wonder why Ann Coulter never served? She could swat at the enemy with those big flippers of hers and take out a row of men at a time.
