Before this gets going, let me just say that this is just meant to be fun, and imformative as to the personal views of the writer. We all have a pretty good idea of our political leanings from reading each other's posts, but I think this might provide a little more insight and help us to better understand where we are coming from. On that note, please no bashing in this thread (we'll save that for later:P)
My idea of the perfect place is the United States, circa 1776. The Founding Fathers had it right back then. The original Constitution would be the document that defines our nation to this day. The Federal government would be in existence for the sole purpose of providing for the common defence of the 50 states. The sovereign rights of the states would still be intact as they were back then. I feel that like minded people would have congregated in the states that supported the ideals they most identified with, and we wouldn't have the division we have today. In a perfect world, government would have no say in what private property owners can and cannot do with their property, so long as that use has no ill physical effects on adjacent property owners. All states and the Federal government would operate on consumption taxes only. Many things, such as schools, Department of Transportation, etc.. would be privatized. Roads and other infrastructure would be built and maintained by private companies, property owners, or local co-ops. (The cheapest electricity rates in our de-regulated energy market in Texas are from a local co-op). Interstate highways would be toll roads. All politicians would be held to high standards, and behave as Statesmen, as they used to, not as power hungry politicos as they do now. There would be no more lobbying, pork projects, special interest groups, etc. English would be the official language of America. LEGAL immigrants would be welcomed with open arms, ILLEGALS would be immediately arrested and deported. America would be self sufficient and self reliant. Alternative energy would have been explored long ago as our own oil reserves began to dwindle. We would not meddle in world affairs, keeping a neutral stance, taking care of our own business would be priority 1. We would attack only when physically provoked, and any action would be swift, decisive, and deadly. As you can see, we are far from my perfect world, as I am sure is true for a lot of you guys and gals as well. But it sure is nice to dream a little.:D
