It's Albert Schweitzer. I read his Out Of My Life And Thought when I was in army basic training. He had a tremendous effect on me. Later on, in college I think, I read The Search for the Historical Jesus, which I think is still the baseline document historians use in trying to determine which parts of the gospels are historically accurate.

Schweitzer, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952, was regarded in his time as the best theologican, the best organist, the best organ builder, and one of the best doctors in the world. He spent most of his life living and practicing medicine in Africa.
