Government has no business dealing with real estate. Eminent Domain has no place in this country. It amounts to theft of personal property in my book. On the flip side, public land already in existence is under attack by government as well. Both sides of the coin relate directly back to money. Eminent domain serves only to generate even more revenue for the already ridiculously overfed monstrosity of government. Private property rights are trampled by power and money hungry public officials who cater to the developers. Similarly, these same entities are eying public land in the form of parks, beaches, wetlands, etc.. This practice needs to stop. I'm no treehugger by any means, but I sincerely believe we need to maintain our park system. For one, to reserve at least SOME land in it's natural state, and in doing so, provides a place to escape the concrete jungle for a spell. Other resources that are severely limited, such as beaches and wetlands, I think should be preserved, lest they become the exclusive playground of the rich. In Texas, we have the "Open Beaches Act", which prohibits restricting public access to the beach, and in fact the State owns the beach from the dune line to the surf. I don't know how other states measure up to this, but I believe it is the right thing to do.
