I am from Romania, in the Eastern Europe. In 1989, after 50 years of communism, Romania became a democracy. For 6 years (1990-1996) the country was lead by PDSR (The Romanian Social Democracy Party). In 1996 a coalition won the elections and lead Romania until 2000. It's about CDR (The Romanian Democrat Convention). These two parties no longer exist. In 2000, PSD (the followers of PDSR) won the elections. PSD stands for The Social Democrat Party). In 2004 a strange coalition formed by PD (The Democrat Party) and PNL (The National Liberal Party) managed to take in charge of the power.
So, in 2006, there are 2 major blocks: the leading coalition, DA (Justice and Truth / romanian 'Dreptate si Adevar' and PSD. Also a large popularity has a nationalist party called PRM (The Great Romania Party).

Well, Romania was a monarchy until 1945. But after WW II, Romania became a communist country. The last king, Michael I of Hohenzolern lived in Switzerland until the fall of communism. He lives now in one of his castles here in Romania.

The democratic republic of the US divided its government into three parts, the excutive- which is pretty much a temporary king position. The Judicial- which is the aristocratic branch. The Legislative branch- which is the democratic branch. Cicero, of ancient Rome saw this combination of king, aristocrats, democracy, as the ideal form of government. Each branch is to keep the others in check and balance.

How is the Romanian government organized?
