Conservative pundit Ann Coulter says GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is the “Republican Jimmy Carter” and nominating him would be a big mistake for the party.

Appearing with John Gibson and Heather Nauert on Fox News’ “The Big Story,” Coulter was asked about Huckabee’s recent surge in the polls.

“I’m getting tired of this being blamed on the evangelicals,” said Coulter.

Huckabee’s rise is actually “bad for the evangelicals,” she asserted. “Mike Huckabee is the Republican Jimmy Carter.”

Nominating the ordained Baptist minister “would be a big mistake,” Coulter opined. “He has many good qualities. Unfortunately, the things that are upsetting to the mainstream media about Huckabee are what normal Americans like.”

She cited as examples Huckabee’s “religiosity and his questioning of Darwinian evolution.”

But she criticized the former Arkansas governor for opposing a bill that would have required Arkansas residents to prove they are Americans before they could vote or get social services.

Coulter — whose latest book is “If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans” — was also asked about Hillary Clinton’s recent decline in the polls.

“Hillary really is in trouble, which would be fantastic,” she replied. “But I won’t believe it until we see the dead body.”

When Gibson asked if she meant that literally, Coulter declined to answer. But she did go on to declare, regarding the Clintons: “I would love to see this national pestilence finished off once and for all. The primary would be great. If not, I’ll take the general election.”

I tend to agree.
At first I liked his "oh, shucks" persona, but I now see he is a moderate, or maybe worse...a lib.
He won't last past NH.

The press has just started to whet their appetite to tear his flesh from his bones if nominated.

IMO, the conservatives will deny the libs and press that gruesome pleasure and nominate...dare I say it?....Thomson.

They would be foolish to react and give her credibility. I also wonder how she feels about that whole subservient thing?

While it seems he has Guliani on the run, I don't think his sudden fame is going to last. I also wonder now how Robertson feels about giving Guliani his endocement and not waiting.[hr]

Thompson would need a miracle........maybe Huckabee could put in a good word for him?

What about Huck, lily?
You guys would have a field day with him, even though he is way left of conservatives on social issues.
The best of both worlds.[hr]Thomson is the most viable conservative candidate.
A lot can happen in 9 mos...I asked my mom![hr]Huck would be bashed as a Bible-thumper by the lleft and at the same time too moderate to appeal to the right.
IMO, he is a flop.

You asked me a question.......then answered it for me.:madlaugh:

I take Huckabee about as seriously as I do Thompson.

Mike Huckabee a "lib"...You have GOT to be kidding me. He may be to the right of BROWNBACK on social issues for Christ's sake [pun intended]. Anyway, Huckabee would be horrific President and I would like to think that the GOP is smart enough not to give him the nomination...But I'm not overly optimistic.

I would agree, NC.
We need a true Conservative in the white House.
Watch for Thomson to surge in the polls, along with Hunter and Tancredo.

The libs would have the hardest time with any of those.
We need a clear choice to pit against the lib/socialists.
Americans will show up in droves to vote for a Reagan Conservative as they did in 1980 and '84.

Huck would be an easy target for the libs.
They would like nothing better than to draw a bead on evangelicals. It is their favorite target.
Thomson scares the Dems and their accomplaces in then press.
That is an excellent reason to support Fred.

No, I think the only time they really bother us is when they say God tells them to go to war, or when they try to push their beliefs on others.......stuff like that tends to "bother" people.

He'd actually have to go out and do some campaigning..:lmao:

Tancredo's out. Hunter and Thompson have no chance.

But this is all just a waste of time, a Democrat's going to be the next President. And we'll call him President Obama.

I'm gonna echo the scoff at the notion of Huckabee being labeled a liberal, I think he's just so far right that he's gone round the bend.

But I don't think that Huckabee has a shot outside the Big Red Flats. Thompson, on the other hand, doesn't have the drawing power for "values" Republicans. Honestly, the Republicans haven't got any strong candidates: Guliani would bring about the first fully pro-choice ticket in history and alienate the values crowd, Huckabee got to the ticket 40 years too late for his folksiness (it hurts to agree with Anne Coulter about something), and Thompson just doesn't have the know how or the intellectual clout for the job.

I think the real concern with Huckabee is international though. Much of the world looks at our current President and think that we're all Jesus-freaky. I think we need someone who talks more about facts and policy and less about what God said to him that week to repair our image around the world, and Mike Huckabee is the last man for that job.

Ann Coulter has a large mouth and an empty head. Every time she yawns, the air pressure drops in the room she's in.

Huckabee is about as much a liberal as Ann Coulter is. And just in case we have some retards that don't understand sarcasm, that means he isn't a liberal.
