GOD BLESS MOTHER RUSSIA!

Mon Dec 17, 5:26 PM ET

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran received its first nuclear fuel from Russia on Monday, paving the way for the startup of its reactor in 2008.

Both the U.S. and Russia said that with the shipment, the Iranians would no longer have any reason to produce enriched uranium that could be used to build a nuclear weapon.

But Iran said it would continue its enrichment activities at a separate facility, in the central city of Natanz, to provide fuel for another nuclear reactor. Not only that, it indicated that construction had begun on just such a reactor, in Darkhovin in southwestern Iran.

"We are currently constructing a 360-megawatt nuclear power plant in Darkhovin," Vice President Gholam Reza Aghazadeh said on state television. Previously Iran had always described the Darkhovin plant as being in the planning stages.

This is a direct result of Bush planting missles in eastern Europe. Russia balked, Bush insisted, and now Russia is supplying Iran with nuclear fuel. No where in this article does it mention that, nor in the Washington Post version, nor in the New York Times version. No reporter assigned to cover the middle east/Iran could possibly miss the obvious connection. The is the result of another bad Bush policy.

Big Media is a soley owned subsidiary of the Republican party. We are being lied to by the white house, aided by the media, and backed by congress. Be suspicous or be a fool.

Please note, this will not stop Iran from enriching Uranium to make it's own fuel since a similar deal with Europe a few years ago fell through which hurt them financially. That is the reason why they are so stubborn with. Every deal they have made with other countries before regarding their nuclear program has amounted to nothing.

Russia is looking to re-emerge as a superpower. The US's anti-launch facilities are not causing that. Their support for Iran & Venezuela did not start with the installation in eastern europe. They are competing with the U.S. for hegemony wherever they can. You could make the argument that the U.S. policies prevent venezuela & iran from allying with us rather than Russia, but ascribing russia's actions to the anti-launch missle installation is just naivete or partisan blame-casting.[hr]

Was that deal before or after they stopped their covert nuclear weapons program?

[Quote] ascribing russia's actions to the anti-launch missle installation is just naivete or partisan blame-casting.[Quote/]

That's all it is huh? LOL

Bush had some momentum against Iran including cooperation from Putin
on may sanctions. If one were following the news before this happened you might recall that Bush requested earlier that Russia wait to make any deals with Iran on supplying fuel. Three weeks ago the US went ahead with their plans of installing missles in Eastern Europe. You labelled it "anti-launch" but they are missle sites none the less. Labelling them anti-launch is really just neo-con zealotry or echoing administration spin ; ) .....but anyway..... I conclude from this that Putin is getting retribution by selling Iran fuel. It was "all important" to Putin that Bush not put the missles in East Europe and it was "all important" to Bush that Putin not sell them fuel. Putin lost in the global debate, and now...combined with the NIE and Putins timing...so did Bush. To me it is obvious. I bet Bush Co heard the message from Putin.

Update on the situation...

Iran says its first NPP will be commissioned before March 2009
22/ 12/ 2007

TEHRAN, December 22 (RIA Novosti) - Iran's first nuclear power plant being built by Russia will start generating electricity before March 2009, the Islamic Republic's government spokesman said on Saturday.

"In line with a timetable of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, electricity to be generated by the Bushehr nuclear power plant will flow into the country's power grid next year," Gholam Hossein Elham said. A new year in Iran begins on March 21 and finishes on March 20.

"We hope the positive process connected with the Bushehr NPP will continue," Elham said.
Russia has recently announced the start of nuclear fuel deliveries to the Bushehr plant following months of delays to the plant's construction.
Under a Russian-Iranian agreement on Bushehr, nuclear fuel deliveries to the plant start about six months ahead of its commissioning. Russian officials said supplies would continue into February 2008.

The Russian contractor for the $1 billion project, state-controlled Atomstroyexport, said on Thursday the plant will not be commissioned before the end of 2008.

The United States and other Western powers suspect Iran of secret plans to build nuclear weapons and have pushed for measures to force Tehran to halt uranium enrichment, which is used in both electricity generation and weapons production.

The Western nations and Israel have criticized Russia's cooperation with Iran, saying nuclear fuel supplies and the construction of an atomic power plant will aid the Islamic Republic in its attempts to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran to announce a tender for new nuclear power plants soon

IRAN, December 23 (RIA Novosti) - Iran will soon announce a tender for the construction of new nuclear power plants in the Islamic Republic, a senior Iranian lawmaker said on Sunday.

"An international tender will be announced soon for the creation of 19 nuclear power plants with a capacity of 1,000 MW each," said Kazem Jalali, a spokesman for Iran's parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy.

Jalali said these plans corresponded to the Iranian parliament's resolution on the generation of 20,000 MW of electricity required for the Islamic state.

Gholam Hossein Elham, a spokesman for the Islamic Republic's government, said on Saturday that Iran's first nuclear power plant being built by Russia will start generating electricity before March 2009.

"In line with a timetable of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, electricity to be generated by the Bushehr nuclear power plant will flow into the country's power grid next year," he said. A new year in Iran begins on March 21 and finishes on March 20.

The $1 billion project has been at the center of an international dispute, with Western countries who suspect Iran of developing nuclear weapons protesting against Russia's nuclear cooperation with the Islamic Republic. The project has been implemented under the supervision of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It is to me, absolutely absurd to think ANY nation will stop ANY OTHER nation from getting technology and information in the information age.

If one nation has a SOVEREIGN RIGHT to WMD, so does another.

We shouldn't be interfering, especially by using entangling alliances.

Non-interventionism is a much better policy, until imminent threat is a factor.

We agree on that page. There is nothing wrong with a nation advancing itself using nuclear power plants to conserve other energy sources. Just because the USA is backward with no future vision, doesn't mean the rest of the world are as dumb as we are.

The sooner the world advances in technologies the better off the human race will be.

I disagree if the US goveremnt is allowed to have these kindof abominal weapons then every goveremnt should be allowed to have them. Also glassing a part of Iran, even if this didn't start a nuclear war, I highly doubt it will help the American goverement in any way, shape, or form.

Iran recognizes only IAEA as nuclear negotiator - president

12/ 01/ 2008

TEHRAN, January 12 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that Iran officially recognizes only the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as a party to talks on Iran's nuclear program.

The Iranian president made the statement during his meeting with Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA director general, who is in Tehran for talks with the country's leadership on Iran's controversial uranium enrichment program.

"Iran officially recognizes only the IAEA as a party to talks on the nuclear program. Of course, this does not obstruct our dialogue on different issues with other countries," the president said.

Several Western countries, particularly the United States, suspect Iran's nuclear program is geared toward the production of atomic weapons. Iran denies the allegations, saying it intends to use nuclear power purely for electricity generation.

Two sets of UN Security Council sanctions are currently in place against Iran over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment. A further round of more stringent sanctions has so far been blocked by China and Russia.

Leader: Iran opposes nukes

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution says settling Iran's nuclear issue through appropriate means would be a great success for the IAEA.

In a meeting with the UN nuclear watchdog's chief Mohamed ElBaradei, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei urged the IAEA to fulfill its duties as an independent international organization.

The Leader termed the handling of Iran's nuclear case as an important test for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He also pointed to the question of nuclear weapons, the oft-cited pretext for western oppostion to Iran's nuclear program and said Iran was fundamentally opposed to their development on religious grounds.

Ayatollah Khamenei said hegemonic powers are outraged at the results of the IAEA's investigation into Iran's nuclear activities, which have confirmed its peaceful nature, indicating that they are against the world body's independence.

Ayatollah Khamenei said "America's problem with Iran goes beyond the nuclear issue" and that Washington believed it could bring the Iranian nation to its knees by exerting pressure on the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program.

The Leader emphasized that there is no justification for keeping Iran's nuclear file in the UN Security Council and expressed hope that the dossier would be sent back to the IAEA.

ElBaradei, for his part, supported Iran's right to peaceful nuclear technology and called for a diplomatic solution to the dispute.

Russia ships nuclear fuel to Iran

Russia's state-run Atomstroiexport Corporation has started delivering the first shipment of nuclear fuel to Iran's Bushehr Power Plant.

"All fuel that will be delivered will be under the control and guarantees of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the whole time it stays on the Iranian territory," AP quoted Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.

"Moreover, the Iranian side has given additional written guarantees that the fuel will be used only for the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. The spent fuel from Bushehr would be returned to Russia for reprocessing and storage," it added.

The delivery process will take up to two months to complete, Atomostroiexport said.

Iran insists that its nuclear activities at Bushehr power station are purely for peaceful purposes.
Tehran and Moscow have resolved differences and agreed on a timetable to complete the construction of the Bushehr plant.

"We have resolved all the problems with the Iranians," said Sergei Shmatko, president of Atomstroiexport, the Russian contractor for Bushehr, last week.
"We have agreed with our Iranian colleagues a timeframe for completing the plant," he added.
Russia had said earlier that fuel deliveries would begin about a half year before Bushehr was expected to go into service.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that no date could be determined for completion of Iran's Bushehr power plant.

Construction at Bushehr had been frequently postponed. According to official reports, the delays were due to payment disputes with the Russian side.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said that resolving the controversy over Iran's program is possible "solely on the basis of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, IAEA rules and principles and, certainly, with Iran proving its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.''

He made the statement last week after a meeting in Moscow with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki.

Russia delivers third fuel shipment to Iran's nuclear plant

http://img.rian.ru/images/9723/29/97232911.jpg

18/ 01/ 2008

TEHRAN, January 18 (RIA Novosti) - Russia delivered on Friday the third fuel shipment to the Bushehr nuclear power plant it is building in southern Iran, the country's official news agency said, citing officials.

IRNA quoted the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran as saying that 11 metric tons of low-enriched uranium had been delivered to the plant, which has been the focus of international attention over fears Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

The shipment is the third Russia has supplied to the Islamic Republic under a contract. The remaining five batches will be delivered according to a previously agreed timetable.

Sergei Kiriyenko, the director general of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, said Russia will complete fuel supplies to Bushehr NPP in February.

"In February we will complete the supplies, and actual work with the fuel at the plant will start in July-August," he said.
The first delivery to the plant, being built by Russian contractor Atomstroyexport, came on December 16, 2007 following months of project delays that Moscow attributed to payment arrears, but which Iran blamed on pressure from Western nations.

Under a bilateral intergovernmental contract, Russia is set to deliver a total of 82 metric tons of fuel divided into eight batches. Deliveries are monitored by the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

United States President George W. Bush, who has led international calls for sanctions against Iran over its refusal to freeze its nuclear program, said last month that he supported the start of Russia's enriched uranium deliveries to the Islamic Republic, and that Tehran no longer has any excuse to develop its own enrichment capabilities.

Russia delivers sixth fuel shipment to Iran nuclear plant

24/ 01/ 2008

TEHRAN, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia delivered on Thursday a sixth fuel shipment to the Bushehr nuclear power plant it is building in southern Iran, the Islamic Republic's state-run media said, citing Iranian nuclear officials.

With the latest shipment, Russia has so far supplied a total of 66 metric tons of low-enriched uranium to the plant, which has been the focus of international attention over fears Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

The first delivery to the plant, being built by Russian contractor Atomstroyexport, came on December 16, 2007 following months of project delays that Moscow attributed to payment arrears, but which Iran blamed on pressure from Western nations.

The remaining two shipments will be delivered according to a previously agreed timetable by the end of February.

Under a bilateral intergovernmental contract, Russia is set to deliver a total of 82 metric tons of nuclear fuel divided into eight shipments. Deliveries are monitored by the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iranian government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham earlier said Tehran expects bilateral relations to gain much from the fuel deliveries.

"Russia and Iran maintain good, developing relations. The deliveries of nuclear fuel for the Bushehr nuclear power plant are also a good pretext for boosting cooperation between our countries," he said.

Iran: All IAEA Questions Responded

http://media.farsnews.com/Media/8608/Images/jpg/A0351/A0351171.jpg

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran has responded to all questions about its nuclear program, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman announced on Tuesday, reiterating that transparency of his country's nuclear activities has been approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini made the remarks in a meeting in Bahrain with the country's deputy foreign minister.

Hosseini, who is heading a delegation of senior media directors in the visit to Bahrain, noted Iran's voluntary, transparent and constructive cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog agency, and reminded that the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programs has even been approved by the recent US National Intelligence Estimate (NIE).

"Nevertheless, no change has been unfortunately observed in the unconstructive attitude of the 5+1 - the five permanent UN Security Council members (Russia, China, Britain, France and the US) plus Germany - and the negative ploys and propaganda and excuse-seeking (of the West) continue despite Iran's constructive cooperation," he said.

Hosseini, who is also a special aide to the Iranian foreign minister, further pointed out that Tehran expects western countries to account for their actions vis-Ã*-vis international regulations and refrain from blockading the rights of nations.
