Our newspapers have it that Labor party funding needs to be changed after the week’s proxy donor scandal, while Gordon Brown has called for broader change within the whole system of political funding.
Just think of it! Now our premier has changed his tune. He agrees with immediate reform of own party funding. He tells us about necessity of its openness and transparency.
But where was he before when our police had begun to investigate the case of the titles? Why was G. Brown so sure he could not be involved in the previous scandal, concerning to process of filling his party cashier? Well, certainly former Chancellor of the Exchequer was not responsible for party funding.
But now his tactics hasn’t changed greatly. Being UK Premier, Mr. Brown can not say, “It is no concern of mine. Leave me out!” That is why we may accuse our prime minister of using calls for immediate review of Labor Party funding as a “smokescreen” distracting from the proxy donor scandal, which is not a simple mistake of the party’s bosses.
It is clear that Labor Party has needed major reforms to party funding and a cap on donations far in advance of this moment. But the matter is that G. Brown is the one, who has refused to do it earlier, because he didn’t want to give up on the multi-million pound financing from our trade unions…

Yeah that's what we call trying to "get in front" of an issue.
