Morning everyone! I hope that most Europeans would agree with me that energy security of EU member states is a most vital question that needs to be cleared asap.
Whether you like it or not, Russia is obviously that very country that plays most significant role in providing EU energy security and we cannot disregard the fact that Europe's wellbeing is in point of fact dependent on Russia's energy resources.
Though, it seems that some members of the Energy Charter Conference still try to play-act and pretend to be unaware of living in a new world with new rules. They believe that we can easily go without Russian gas and oil, but think what happens in case EU refuses to take part in working out European-Asian Energy Charter Treaty? In this case Russia may confederate with its partners in Shanghai Cooperation Organization including observers (such as India and Iran) and actuate adoption of the Asian Energy Charter Treaty. Sure, after that Moscow may also involve into it the countries that traditionally back up Russia (for instance, Bulgaria and Greece). So that's when EU will finally run into trouble. I think we should not push Russia too far.
Thank you for attention
