In the last decade, politics in the United States have become increasingly divided.
We see more negative campaigning on television and more cutthroat debate policy.
It is even evident on this site, where Republicans battle Democrats, Conservatives battle Liberals, with hardly any give. I realize this may be because the individuals with the staunchest beliefs are those on a political forum, but where is the middle ground?
So, my question to you - do you vote on the issues or do you vote for the party?

Political parties in America are a sad joke.
Both are sold out to corporate power and neither represents the people any more.
Both think it's OK to dispense with the Constitution when it inconveniently interferes with ruling the Nation.
Both keep spending and borrowing more money, which must ultimately be repaid with interest.
Both see nothing wrong with an aggressor type of foreign policy that creates more enemies than friends.
I guess I am more of a issues guy, huh?

I was watching some news program......so I can't give a link, but they were talking about this very subject. It was mentioned that in times of war, people are naturally divided, but not since the Civil War has this country been so divided. Not to put the blame totally on the Republicans, but when you hear slogans like you are either with us or against us, sort of makes you take sides, doesn't it?

Not getting much presidential advertisments yet.......but I'm telling you this past local election was the dirtiest I've ever seen.

Issues every time.

Our last local election was dirty, too. More so than usual. I've noticed that since Bush took office this country has been more divided than ever before. I've also noticed that more and more people are speaking out, which is good, on both sides.
I always, always vote on issues. I don't follow a party line of any type.
Purrs,
Pookie
I'm so Liberal that sometimes Democrats do not even come close to speaking out on issues I think are important. Republicans have never come anywhere close to addressing the issues I think are important. So, to answer the question, I am split between issues and party but only because my Liberal viewpoint no longer has any sway in a monolithic GOP.
