View Full Version : Is Ron Paul really a Constitutionalist?

At one time I considered Paul's stance on going into Iraq a matter of Constitutional basis. His youtube campaign has shown that this is not the case. Any anti-war basis that Paul hovers on is to gain the votes of the ill-knowing university pugnets who live in a glass palace.

Paul (now) only objects to the Constitutionality of going to war based on what he deems as "white lies". His strength is weakened with people that have seen and know otherwise. I say, let him impregnate the liberal voice. They are a dark horse anyway.

Thanks Ron Paul.

Is the Iraq campaign wrong? Yes. Is it unconstitutional? Technically not. It's about as equally constitutional as long term standing armies.

I'm surprised they let him talk long enough to speak some truth. I thought that violated the rules up there in congress.

I actually like Dr Paul but I dont think it is his time. As far as Dr Paul not getting airtime, all I can say is where has freedom of the press gone?

Do I know for sure that trilateralism is a mainstream political goal? No. Do I know whether things like NAFTA, and other initiatives are leading us to become a united nation under spit? Yeah. I do. Its apparent and anyone that denies it is a liar. I have no problem calling them that to their face.

Paul is running on the Perot ticket. For those of us like myself who liked Perot, Ron Paul makes us feel younger cause he looks like yoda in Tempe. Another plus.[hr]

I never presented that the Iraq campaign was wrong. I can compare it to the Meglidesh one if you wish. Although you stated it is not technically un-Constitutional, would you mind expounding on this this stament you wrote- "It's about as equally constitutional as long term standing armies."

Thanks.

Article 1, Section 8:

"...To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;"

In the ratification debates, Federalists, who were generally supportive of a standing army, made a concession that a professional federal army should only last as long as two years, and should remain just large enough to provide a rapid response and to train the various militias.
