Bush: Clinton Understands White House Pressure Better Than Any Other Candidate

In an exclusive interview with Charlie Gibson airing Tuesday on World News, President Bush and first lady Laura Bush said that Sen. Hillary Clinton's experience as first lady has prepared her to handle the "pressure" of a presidential race and the White House.

"No question, there is no question that Sen. Clinton understands pressure better than any of the candidates, you know, in the race," the president told ABC News' Charlie Gibson Tuesday afternoon at the presidential retreat at Camp David.

The president emphasized, "I do believe our candidate will beat her, if she happens to be the nominee," although he refused to speculate on the Republican presidential field, calling it a "wide-open" race.

Bush, whose father was defeated for re-election by Bill Clinton in 1992, called the former first lady a "very formidable candidate," saying repeatedly that she and the former president "understand the klieg lights."

Laura Bush said experience as first lady would be "very helpful" in the White House.

"You certainly know what it's like," she emphasized. "You know the pressure there is, you know the difficulties."

The first lady later said, "I think it was very helpful for us to have been ... around the White House as much as we were when his parents served there."

LOL!!! He probably knows he'll kill any candidate he supports so this is his way of trying to get Hillary out of the race.

Either that or he is very sure American won't vote for a woman so he wants her to be the Dem candidate.

No news there. She has the most experience in that capacity. By no means do I think that makes her the best candidate, but it's true nontheless.

What makes Hillary the best candidate is Bill, who will be providing backup for her, and no other candidate has that experience. Who among the candidates is prepared to turn dignity back to the US by mending diplomatic ties? Who was first among the candidates to say they would bring the troops home? Who among the candidates can quickly restore fiscal responsibility to America, and provide a balanced budget better than Bill can? Who reformed Welfare? Who gave us 8 years of peace and prosparity? Who will give America National Health Care for ALL Americans? With the Clinton Team 08' we have a track record of success to show what these people are capable of doing if we can control congress for four years. Who is more capable to take the reins of the terrorist threat, than the guy who put the Homeland Security package together?

All other candidates fall way short of the golden seed waiting to bloom in America again. All the rightwing BS is behind us, so maybe we will get an 8 year run, even if we have to drag the replug anchor down the Congress hallways.
