Hugo Chavez (L) and former Defense Minister, Raul Baduel
Several top ranking Venezuelan generals have voiced their support for President Chavez, saying Armed Forces are now more united than ever.

General Jorge Garcia Carneiro, former defense minister, assured that the armed forces "are quite calm" since they are committed to the role assigned to them and denied that Baduel was talking on behalf of the military sector.

Former Defense Minister, Raul Baduel, had earlier called for a "NO" vote in the upcoming referendum to reject the constitutional reforms.

Meanwhile, retired admiral Orlando Maniglia, also a former Defense Minister, criticized the "political game" Baduel is playing and considered that it was important to maintain a dialogue and defeat any coup or absenteeism.

Bolivarian Military Civic Front of Venezuela has also expressed their support of Chavez.

Baduel helped Chavez return to power after 2002 coup; however he strongly opposes the constitutional change, saying "it seizes away power from the people.”

Russia starts supplies of Su-30 fighters to Venezuela
30/ 11/ 2006

MOSCOW, November 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has shipped the first two Su-30MK2 multi-role fighters to Venezuela under a contract signed in July 2006, an aircraft manufacturing industry official said Thursday.

Russia signed $1-billion contracts on supplies of 24 Su-30MK2 Flanker fighters and 30 helicopters to Venezuela prior to this year's visit to Russia by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, triggering criticism from Washington, which regards the Venezuelan regime as a potential security threat in the region.

"The first Su-30MK2 fighters for the Venezuelan air force have been transported to Moscow by an An-124 Condor transport plane, and later they will be shipped to Venezuela," the official said, adding that two more fighters will be delivered to the Latin American country by the end of 2006.

......and this surprises you? All generals that are actively serving any leader of any country are going to say they support them.

I didn't mean to say that it surprises me. It might surprise someone here who attacks Chavez.
I just wanted to show that MOST of people of Venezuela support chavez.

Not always.
In US there are MANY generals who do NOT support George W. Bush...

:)

Well....it's an odd way of showing it......since MOST of the people are not top generals.

Not active as the generals in your article are. Not one active general has spoken out. They wait until they are retired or "spending more time with their family".

Folks on the ground say different...if they're still alive.

His generals support him? Well that's a joke. Support a rabid dictator or make your choice, blindfold or no blindfold for the firing squad.

Sorry December but your assertion that everybody loves Hugo is nonsense. Back it up with facts.

Wouldn't any opposition to Chavez be rewarded with a bullet to the head?

Let's do the math mic:

Tin pot dictator + Bolivarian socialism + affinity for Castro = A bullet in the head if you oppose Hugo.

Yup, a headshot if your against Hugo.

Frankly, I think that someone is going to have the stones enough to snipe Chavez out before he really screws up Venezuela.

Thanks God Venezuela has Russian SU -30 and other good weapons, so now USA will have problems to transform that country in a new "democracy". :)

The Su-30MK is a two-seat multirole fighter and air superiority aircraft. It is derived from the Su-27 Flanker family, and is comparable with the American F-15. According to the Sukhoi Design Bureau, the Su-30 can perform all tasks of the Su-24 and Su-27, while having around twice the combat range and 2.5 times the combat effectiveness.
