During the industrial revolution and just prior, there was also a revolution in thought. The basic idea behind it went something like this, “God is unnecessary, therefore we should focus on the importance of humans, as that is the only thing we can immediately relate to ourselves, and therefore the only thing of value”. This humanistic thought made many people feel safe in the knowledge that no-one would hurt them, because it was morally wrong. Wars were now seen as an atrocity, rather than a fight for ideals, and the wars that followed were examples of industrialisation destroying the idealistic aspect of war, transforming it into unmerciful human slaughter without purpose or meaning. This perhaps served to strengthen the cause of humanists, who went under the guise of atheism, but were now infiltrating religious groups as well. These wars so damaged the mentality of western nations that they fell into a situation where taboo subjects were so discouraged that truth became a thing of the past. An example of these taboos is the subject of race, the idea of racism became hated to the point where it is now considered undesirable even to be proud of one’s race, just think how you would react if someone said they were proud to be white. The ghost of WW2 lingered over the western world causing them to reject their culture and heritage and adopt materialism. With this came the humanism that had been developing for some time, in combination these led to the death of spirituality and idealism in the western world.
Most people will realise that religion deals with concepts that transcend the physical realm, the scriptures are almost entirely metaphysical doctrines if one can read between the lines this becomes quite obvious. Their wisdom is hidden from many and has become even further obscured by modern materialism. Unfortunately because many religious figures felt threatened by the advance of atheism and materialism in the western world, they reacted not with religious wisdom (for this had been forgotten it would seem) but on the materialists own terms. Christians in particular forgot the metaphysical origins of their scripture and attempted to force knowledge which by its very nature is non-physical into the world of forms. They claimed that evolution did not happen, despite overwhelming evidence, and that homosexuality was a conscious decision rather than a defect at birth, again in the face of overwhelming evidence. To materialists this was clinching proof that religion was unnecessary, and essentially, although these fundamentalists were often in the minority they undermined religious wisdom by descending into materialism. Christian fundamentalists corrupted their own religion and were instrumental in obscuring the true wisdom of the Bible.
