Abizaid: US in Mid-East for 50 years

General Abizaid says US will stay in Mid-East for the next 50 years
The former commander of US forces in the Middle East says oil could have American troops tied down there for the next 50 years.

Retired general John Abizaid, 56, Former Commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), said Wednesday "We shouldn't assume for even a minute that in the next 25 to 50 years the American military might be able to come home, relax and take it easy, because the strategic situation in the region doesn't seem to show that as being possible".

General Abizaid, who retired in May as the longest-serving commander of US Central Command, said the rise of Arab-Israeli conflict and the world economy's dependency on Middle East oil will keep Americans there for a long time.

Abizaid said oil is behind a lot of what he described as the "geopolitical moves" in the region. It's "absolutely essential" for the US to figure out how to lessen its dependency on foreign energy, he added.

50 more years?!! Jesus fucking Christ!!!! Just think what could have happened if our corporate and governmental leaders had listened to what US lefty liberals and the so-called "envirowhackos" had been saying for the past 50 years.

Too bad the corporate heads, conservatives and Repubs didn't want to hear it or listen to what the liberals had been saying, huh? They refused to listen and now we have this to look forward to for the next 50 years. In the crowd I run with we acknowledge that the things we don't want to hear are the very things we need to hear. To bad the corporate heads, conservatives and Repubs weren't willing to listen to what they needed to hear. But, hey, they made their millions- and billions- so they got what they wanted and nothing else matters, right? Fucking fools- every damn one of them. Grrrrr......

Oh please!

The reason you won't get ME peace going, is because there are large segments of the Muslim culture, that thinks it's OK to blow themselves up in a blaze of glory.

How many times did Arafat, Clinton, and the standing Israeli leader meet in the Rose Garden, and declair "Peace"? Well, how did THAT work out? For crying out loud, everytime Clinton needed a bump in the polls, he dragged the two out for a handshake. Did it prevent the Kobar tower attacks? Did it prevent the Cole attack? How about 911, oh wait, you guys think OUR government did that one. I forgot. :dizzy:

This "jihad" has been going on for several decades already. You really think it can be dealt with in a few short years? Oh, that's right, Libs have the heads firmly planted in Utopia, where everything they want just magically materialises before their eyes, with no hardship or suffering, and all the bad guys do what they say. What a wonderful place.

You should thank your lucky stars that a "neo-con" stopped talking and finally decided to do something, or the Brooklyn Bridge would be at the bottom of the East River right now.

That's a good one!... :clapper:
That post can win a title of the Joke Of The Year.

Btw, what was their plan? To bring down NYC simply by creating the heaviest traffic of all times?

In 2002, the feds (presumably the NSA) picked up random cellphone chatter using the words 'Brooklyn Bridge' (which apparently didn't translate well into Arabic). They notified the New York Police Department, which flooded the bridge with cops. Then the feds overheard a phone call in which a man said things were 'too hot' on the bridge to pull off an operation. "Later an interrogation of a terrorist allowed by the Patriot Act led cops to the doorstep of this would-be bridge bomber." Adds Morris, "his plans would definitely have brought down the bridge, NYPD sources told me."

Hillary's constituents will also be much less safe, he says, thanks to the reconstruction of the notorious "wall of separation" that kept intelligence agencies from sharing information with law enforcement - a restriction that the Patriot Act had abolished. "Hillary's supporters would do well to remember, says Morris, how "the wall" made it much more difficult for the FBI to discover that Mohamed Atta and his crew were inside the U.S., plotting to kill 3,000 Americans on 9/11. Recall how the feds seized "20th hijacker" Zacarias Moussaoui a full month before 9/11, "but could not follow up on the leads his laptop would have highlighted because of the pernicious wall" that Democrats like Hillary have now reconstructed. As a result, the FBI was unable to access the laptop's files, which reportedly contained the names of hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks."

So, like I said, there are a lot of folks in NYC that should be very thankful that a "Neo-con" had the guts to act and change the foolish policies of the "progressives".

America better think long and hard about who is best to fight terror. It obviously ain't the progressives.

Oh Please! Where did you hear that nonsense? Large segments of Muslim Culture? Where in Islamic teachings does it say it's ok to blow yourself up? You are confusing terrorism with religion.

How many times did Arafat, Clinton, and the standing Israeli leader meet in the Rose Garden, and declair "Peace"? Well, how did THAT work out?

It takes two to tango. Unfortunately, one or both of the sides were unwilling to uphold their end of the bargain, and things predictably fell apart.

With the way things are going concerning bridges in the US, perhaps the terrorists don't need to bomb the bridge. Just keep the US in war for 50 years so there is no money for upkeep of the bridge and just wait for it to collapse by itself.

Quoting Wndtrch, post #8:

It certainly helps to be able to combat the enemies you have helped to create. On that I will agree with you. If you go around pissing other people or nations off you'd better be prepared to defend yourself- because you will get a negative response from those you've pissed off. Know what I like about "progressives? They know how to keep from pissing others off to a degree that they would want to terrorize US. What was that old adage about how an ounce of prevention is worth a pound a cure? I'd rather stick with those that know how to prevent things like that from happening in the first place than those that only know how to combat what they or their kindred spirits, in the past and by their own actions, have helped to bring about. That's called being consciously proactive rather than merely being mindlessly or instinctively reactive.
