I do like Ron Paul, and I've never liked any of the Republican candidates before in my life. I love Ron Paul's and Christopher Dodd's fight to uphold the constitution. They'd be a great pair to run the country.

While I know a lot of people here like Ron Paul, I have to confess that he doesn't interest me. His desire to get out of Iraq immediately and to ditch the drug "war" certainly make sense, but his views on civil rights, abortion, race, and a number of other subjects leave me cold. I'm glad a libertarian is making the run, but he's too socially conservative for me.

Could you be more specific ?

He is too socially liberal for me

The Ron Paul glow is wearing off on me too, Buck. I'm still troubled about that racist paper he wrote, even though it was a long time ago. I don't also don't like his stance on abortion and stem cell research.

Lily, he never wrote that paper...It was written by a staffer without his knowledge. Anyone who has read his writings could tell that it was not written in his prose.

I'm indifferent on the drug war. I'm not for loading up jails with drug users, but other than that I'm not very opinionated one way or the other.
You know I disagree with him on the war, but Paul's personal social, economic and environmental views are rather pointless. Whatever his position is, he wants to do nothing and leave it to the states. He'll oppose any positive changes, and wants to reverse some, because he thinks the feds have no place in it. Well meaning or not, he'd be the worst do nothing president in history I think.

Haven't we been over the fact that Paul's not a racist already?

Well, I can't find the original debate, but if my bad memory serves me correctly, it still went out under his name or at the very least his approval. Either way, I'm losing interest in him especially now that I've done some reading and his stance on stem cell and abortion is becoming clearer. I also think that not only won't he help make this country come back together, he may make it further apart and I honestly don't see him being able to bridge the gap and work across the aisle in congress.
I really wanted to believe in him, and even touted his virtues to everyone that never heard of him, but my feelings have changed. Which really leaves me feeling hollow as I haven't been excited about a candidate running since Anderson.

Who's Anderson?
Do you have any respect to constitution left ?
Yes I do.......I am also a realist and know that Paul doesn't have a chance in hell of doing anything he's promised to do without congressional support.[hr]
Who's Anderson?
He ran in the 1980 presidential elections as an Independent. I guess you would call him an Rockefeller Republican.

Yep I definately see a "Read my lips, no new taxes" moment for Ron Paul there. But then again, he doesn't stand a chance in the primaries.

Yopu shouldn´t say that he doesn´t have a change, you must might have to eat your words.

I think that congress is there to represent PEOPLE and if they want to get re-elected they will have to listen to you. You just vote a HONEST guy like Ron and not fall into political rhetoric...You must vote people who actually practice what they preach!
If Ron get elected, that´s STRAIGHT message to the congress that people are not going to take that bullshit anymore.
And Ron can change the congress or he can make them look so awful that nobody is willing to vote them to get re-elected...
Your politics are corrupt and you need to have a HONEST man to show the way!

That's the ONLY reason I am not convinced to vote for him. But I am getting to feel more and more like most of the status quo doesn't do anything I want anyways...at least the guy in the white house would WANT to do the things America wants done.
Also...the Constitution is the Constitution...it's the law of the land. Truly we have moved far away from the original intent of that document. We could use a person who would have a national audience to convince the everyday person of it's merits. As President he would at least have everyones ear.
What will Hillary accomplish? What will Guiliani accomplish? Realistically...nothing great gets done anymore in our country. Something that Americans can be proud of. I could see Paul as a Teddy Roosevelt type president traveling around and looking for projects.
States should be given more power again. Feds should be removed from a LOT of control in our society. Paul would at least attempt to get these things done. He is an intelligent guy...he has been a Congressman and an effective one at that. Let's give him some credit.

Yeah.......that is working out so well.....I think I'll try that again.

You can try all you want.......but unless you have congress and the house backing you.......you're not going to get anything done.

I don't think you can make them look worse than they already are. Like I said qwerty, I'm a realist.

I'm assuming you don't mean me personally?[hr]

If I een thought he'd have a chance to repeal the Patriot Act, he'd have my vote in a heartbeat. Like I said, Labrocca........I was all gung ho for him........but I woke up.......and it seems now that I did, more and more people are jumping onto his bandwagon. He's getting more popular by the day. Maybe if he ran as an independent, it would show that he could work with both political parties?
