TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran has access to evidence of U.S. support for terrorist groups in the Middle East, a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Iran's new chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, made the allegation in comments to visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, whose country may soon send troops to hunt down Kurdish guerrillas in northern Iraq.

Tehran says the rebels are operating in Iraq with U.S. forces present in the country and this shows Washington is refraining from tackling them.

Like Turkey, Iran also has faced cross-border attacks by Kurdish rebels and has shelled targets inside Iraq in response.

"Escalation of terrorism in the region is one of the direct results of the presence of occupiers in Iraq, particularly America," Jalili, an ally of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said according to the country's state broadcaster.

"And there are documents and information available proving America's support for terrorist groups in the region," he said, without giving details. Jalili is also the new secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

Well, the Bush family has supported terrorists in the past when it has served their purposes - see Orlando Bosch.

Unfortunately this is not good enough for the US to go to war with Iran.

I would say the opposite: Fortunately this is not good enough for the US to go to war with Iran.

Accusations of support for terrorism weren't good enough before the attack on saddam's Iraq and they're not enough now for a US assault on Iran.

Heh. Especially in light orf the counter-allegations that US forces are supporting PKK terrorists against Iran..

Uncle Sam...what a hypocrite...

When a terrorist is on your side, they're called "freedom fighters".

Do I need to state what is wrong with this?

Uncle Sam...what a hypocrite...

Not really, it all depends on your perspective. For example, those who resisted Nazi rule in Germany were terrorists in the Nazis eyes, while in our eyes they are heros. Its all a matter of perspective.

U.S. promised Blackwater immunity in deadly Sept. shootings

WASHINGTON - The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month's deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

The immunity deal has delayed a criminal inquiry into the Sept. 16 killings and could undermine any effort to prosecute security contractors for their role in the incident that has infuriated the Iraqi government.

"Once you give immunity, you can't take it away," said a senior law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

State Department officials declined to confirm or deny that immunity had been granted. One official — who refused to be quoted by name_ said: "If, in fact, such a decision was made, it was done without any input or authorization from any senior State Department official in Washington."

Well one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

Or something along those lines.
