There are many ways to protest peacefully, to show the World how much of a jerk you are...
You can make a huge stupid sign and place it in your yard, to show you are a jerk. You can talk to a jerk in your neighborhood and have him put one up too. You can find a jerk who owns a store and ask to put a small stupid sign up in the window. You can paint your car "Soviet" Red with the words "Impeach Bush" in bright, white letters all over it, and that would be ok.
You can go to the Town Hall and get permission to assemble in the town square with other jerks, and sing songs praising your collective jerk-dom. You can write a dumb-ass book and sell it to jerks. You can write emails to jerks. You can write a piece for the op-eds and have it published in your favorite jerk-paper. You can even contact your jerk-Senator or jerk-Congressman and ask them to impeach Bush.
See, there are lots of way to show the World you are a jerk, without becoming a nuisance to non-jerks.

Just because I don't like abortion, doesn't give me the right to go and disrupt the place. There are RULES for protesting, or didn't you read the first sentance?
Oh, wait a minute, you're a Democrat. Of course you don't understand the concept of "RULES". Sorry, my bad.

Where did I say I hate freespeech? I'm expressing MY freespeech to point out how immature these "cut & run" pinko-commy, terrorist symapathizers are.
Freespeech is not a license to do anything you want. The Founders assumed that grown-ups would be the primary actors in freespeech, and would act with some level of decorum.
So much for that.

Actually, the founders feared the general public as immature and dangerous. That's why we have things like the electoral college.
But I find it funny, people whine about non violent protests yet never touch sacred cows such as the freedom riders who broke segregation laws.

Still couldn't get it to work, but I've seen enough of Code Pink to be able to figure it out. Unfortunately free speech does give you a right to act like a fool, and the law also give you the authroities the right to throw you out if you are acting like a fool.

So, if you are a sheep and a simple minded follower then, by your definition, you would not be a jerk.
A slap in the face to people who think for themselves? Yes.
A slap in the face for those who exercise their constitutional rights? Yes.
If I understand your point of view, Americans should not be Americans, but instead we should be more like, what Soviet citizens and behave as if we have no rights. More right-wing authoritarian dribble. Words from the quintessential follower, longing to told you what to do and what to think. Fortunately, the rest of us can and do think for our sieves.
This country was founded by leaders not followers. It is the people who question leadership who are the real Americans.

Do you work for Media Matters? I ask because you complete missed the point. I never once idicated that we shouldn't allow wing-nut lunes to "protest". I was stating that there are "rules" for doing so, of which, pinko-commie Code Pink and others disregards. For example, Code Pink vandalized reqruitement offices in San Fransisco. THAT is against the law, and not a "right".
My using the word "jerk" was me expressing MY freespeach rights regarding my opinion of content of what they are saying, or do I not have that right in your view? I am a Conservative after all, and you Libs are trying your best to get the Government to shut us up. THAT is real sensorship, and comes from the Left.

Hello Wndrtch:
Free speech is an important right but it also carries the responsibility to speak in a courteous and civil manner. In this instance I have to agree with you that Code Pink behaves irresponsibly and uses personal rights as an umbrella to justify their behavior.
However, that certainly doesn't mean characterizing all protestors as "jerks."

Ever hear of an event called the Boston Tea Party? That was Illegal too. That was against the rules too. It's called protest.
I was correct to assume that as an Authoritarian, you would have no idea of what protests are about. Because Authoritarians always side with the establishment and never on the side of the people.
Thank God that the founders of this country were boat rockers. You use the term "pinko-commie" to describe current day protesters. I wonder what terms the British used to describe the protesters (our founding fathers) of those days?
Those who protest and speak out when the government is headed down the wrong path are real Americans, as American as those who protested during the Boston Tea Party. Those were leaders and not simple followers of the established norms. Those leaders established this country. We are well served by those who emulate them.

LOL!! Really?
So malicious damage of private property is now covered under Free Speech? Cool! I guess I'll go vandalize an abortion clinic or an IRS office as protest!
Hey, at least vandalizing an IRS office, would be in the spirit of the Tea Party, right?
You obviously don't know much about what happened then. The Founders did things like that, because there was no mechanism in place to address grievances with the British Government. You couldn't "vote" a leader out if they did something you didn't like, you couldn't protest PEACFULLY against King George, without being imprisoned.
This isn't true today. You CAN protest and speak your mind, so long as you respect other peoples Rights and property. You DO have Representation with our Government, to redress grievances.
I was correct to assume that as an Authoritarian, you would have no idea of what protests are about. Because Authoritarians always side with the establishment and never on the side of the people.
Accept the "Authoritarians" are elected by the people, for the people, or did you miss that point in Civics class?

Accept for the minor little fact that "the wrong path" is your OPINION. I am of the opinion that we are not going down the wrong path, but I guess opinions counter to yours don't count and shouldn't be voiced.
Gee, how Authoritarian of you.
There times when Governments are wrong!
And Democracy without civility is nothing more than Mob-Rule.
But hey, so long as the idiots (my opinion again, sorry) don't vandalize your property, everything is good.[hr]

Ok, so if I don't like Governor Patrick here in MA, it's ok for me to go and slash the tires on his Cadillac, and I'll be OK because it's "Free speech"? Really? How often has THAT worked for you?
You obviously didn't READ or comprehend my original post. I said there are acceptable ways to protest PEACFULLY. Calling them a jerk, is MY Free-speech right to repudiate their immature actions, or is it only Liberals who are protected by Free-speech, and allowed to destroy anything they want, to make a point?
Did you miss that whole Martin Luther King thing? Did he vandalize someone else’s property? No. Did he disrupt meetings and shove a painted red hand in someone else’s face? No. He protested, PEACFULLY. He didn't act like a spoiled brat child.

Agreed. The "Jerk" stuff was specific to Code Stink's actions and behavior (or lack there of). I have no problem with anti-war protests outside a recruitment office, so long as they don't vandalize it.
You can protest all you want, against anything you want, so long as you do not violate another’s civil liberty/property rights.

Would you apply this doctrine to a wayward child or would you let that child grow more and more wayward without complaint?
If you love your country as you love your child, you will protest and correct them when they are doing wrong, not turn a blind eye to it.
