I was talking to someone yesterday and somehow zoot suits came up. Then I started thinking that I wish zoot suits would comeback because I really want to wear one, and not as a halloween costume.

I also wish pee-wee would make a comeback. I want to see a follow up to pee wee's big adventure, and not the trainwreck that was pee wee's big top.

So what else needs to make a comeback?

Drive in theaters. I had some of my best times as a kid going to a drive in movie.

Corded phones. The radio frequencies are killing us.

Mattel's old original model of the ThingMaker would be nice to see back as well. (I love toys)

Come to my house pat. I've got a corded rotary wall phone from the 50's or 60's hooked up and working. I also have a corded rotary desk phone from the 50's, I believe it's working just not hooked up. Both were my grandparents. The wall phone was a rental from the phone company that they never returned. I don't know how they acquired the desk phone.

Though you might still have to dodge the 4 cordless phone signals, plus the cell phones.

Heh. I have a functional model of the original phone answering machine. In the box. A device called an "Ansa-Phone"

Big gray heavy metal frame with toggle switches. It has a place for the black AT&T phone of the 50s.

You know of course, that the phones changed ever so slowly back then.

The Ansa-Phone has a little tray for the phone and a cradle that lifts the receiver. Has to be a specific shaped phone. Then there is a little microphone that screws on to the original earset... and a tape recorded loop message for outgoing. plus a tape recorder for incoming messages. wonderfully complex.

But I am missing the rotary phone.

Tell you what.

Post a picture of your phone and I'll post a photo of the AnsaPhone. They can get married online!

I'd like to see a comeback of station wagons/vans with a cargo area big enough to handle a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood, We had a couple of Ford Fairlane station wagons in the 60s that carried plywood with room to spare. None of the cars I've had since then could do that, not even the GMC S15 pickup I used to own.

The Fairlane was a pretty crappy car, but it was wide enough.

I had a 62 Fairlane Coupe that was cool, not crappy.

Well, I wish I had your luck. I had a '63, a '64, and '69. Each one was worse than the one before, and the '69 was too narrow to carry a sheet of plywood. Nobody made cars as good back then as they do now: unfortunately, they're not as utilitarian nowadays, either.

I certainly agree that the early '60s Fairlane had a good basic body design. I just wish its mechanicals had been engineered as well as its body.

I have one on my desk. It works even if the power goes out. :)

So many people have a cordless phone and don't realize if the power goes...so does their phone.

The old bug was awesome wasn't it? I liked being able to change the engine out with four bolts, a couple of buddies, and 2 hours of shadetree mechanic time.

Vehicle-wise, what I miss are those vent windows.

I also wish they would make a decent rotary lawnmower, those cheap things nowadays don't last.

Boogy, that Thing sure does bring back some good memories.

Sexy never left either, but no one told Justin Timberlake that.

And they don't run the commercials for Beanie Babies either.

Well, I get my kids the Beanie Babies all the time. You can get them in most stores here, even grocery stores.

In post #9 of this thread I said I would post a photo of my Ansafone.

I didn't forget. Here's a link: http://www.privateline.com/mt_dailynotes/2003/09/the_first_answering_machine.html
And here's the photo (if they don't delink it and accuse me of stealing bandwidth.)

http://www.privateline.com/Clipart/ANSAFONElarge.JPG

That's exactly what my machine looks like on the bottom, under the telephone.

Here's a schematic from the US PAT OFF: http://www.privateline.com/Clipart/ansaphonesmall.gif
