View Full Version : Ron Paul puts his nuttiness in print

That's the title of the article before anyone complains.
Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) presidential campaign had a pretty good week. Paul announced that he raised $5 million in the third quarter, which not only stunned the political world, it put him on par with GOP heavyweights like John McCain in the race for campaign funding. It’s difficult to dismiss a guy as a “fringe” candidate on a “quixotic” quest when he’s able to demonstrate this kind of support.
But it’s incredibly easy to dismiss a guy as “nutty” when he writes bizarre, hand-written letters about a U.N.-takeover of the world.
Brendan Nyhan received a fundraising letter from Paul, in which the candidate insisted that American sovereignty is hanging by a thread.
I don’t need to tell you that our American way of life is under attack. We see it all around us — every day — and it is up to us to save it.
The world’s elites are busy forming a North American Union. If they are successful, as they were in forming the European Union, the good ‘ol USA will only be a memory. We can’t let that happen.
The UN also wants to confiscate our firearms and impose a global tax. The UN elites want to control the world’s oceans with the Law of the Sea Treaty. And they want to use our military to police the world.
Keep in mind, all of this was written long-hand. I know fundraising operations have grown sophisticated, and professionals can make it appear as if a letter is hand-written when it’s really just a clever font, but this (.pdf) certainly looks like it came from Ron Paul’s pen. What’s more, it is, as Kevin put it, “Unabomber-esque.”
Listening to the debates, Paul often comes across as the most sensible guy on the stage, especially when it comes to Iraq and the Patriot Act. And then we’re reminded, in print, that when it comes to a paranoid vision of the world, Paul really is out there on the political periphery.

Yep, Ron Paul is a nutty fruitcake. Yet he has people duped into supporting him. Their loss.

Ron Paul isn't far off the mark though. And EVERY candidate uses the same type of nutty tactics. Hillary, Giuliani, or whomever. They all say crap that appears to have validity to it but in reality it's junk speech. Hillary is trying to say the Bush doesn't want kids to have health care.
"With the stroke of a pen, President Bush has robbed nearly four million uninsured children of the chance for a healthy start in life and the health coverage they need but can't afford. These children are invisible to this president, but they aren't invisible to the American people or to the overwhelming bipartisan majority in Congress - and they aren't invisible to me.
He vetoed a socialist bill...that's reality. Bush didn't ROB anyone and children are certainly not invisible to him.
I can go on and on with every candidate making extreme statements in order to lure in it's constituents.
I give credit to Ron Paul though for creating unique subjects that are avoided by other candidates. Can you tell me which of the statements from Paul in your quote have absolutely no validity?

I have no reason to believe that that letter was in fact written by Ron Paul, it reads nothing like him, does not utilize his writing style and is generally shabbily written.
It is funny though that so many people waste so much time trying to destroy a 'fringe candidate's' campaign.

Rep. Paul isn't a nut if what he fears is a reality.
And many of us perceive the same ruthless forces moving into position to dominate the world. Since the rise of fraudulent elections, PR-flakked aggressive wars and the passage of the Intolerable Act, who could doubt that antidemocratic agendas are underway?

For starters they're going to create a north american union (sane part) that will mean the end of america (crazy part).
"U.N. wants to confiscate our firearms."
"The right to own our property is fading"
"Our american way of life is under attack" (from government)

That handwriting looks pretty damn sloppy to me, even mine is neater than that. Probably the same bastard who wrote that "Ron Paul is a racist" article.

What's the Amero all about?
"U.N. wants to confiscate our firearms."
I can't speak on this one.
"The right to own our property is fading"
Eminent domain...
"Our american way of life is under attack" (from government)
Ambigious and objective statement which you can't refute and I can't prove so it's irrelevent here.
And anyone in his campaign could have written this if indeed this isn't an outright fake.

Ask the people in Europe what they think of the EU. They didn't abolish national sovereignty when they created the EU, but they gradually phase it out over several years.

Unfortunately, white nationalists do support Ron Paul because they want the Jews to suffer in the Middle East. Of course that doesn't mean Mr. Paul is a racist at all.

You know it's true when a study cited that U.S.Americans aren't great listeners. I'm glad to be American and we need to improve our manners. :)

Elrathin, I'm not sure who has given you the idea that RP supporters are overly optimistic about the good Doctor's chances, but I assure you we aren't an overly optimistic bunch. After all, every time Ron Paul wins ANYTHING, morons on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News immediately state its lack of legitimacy or meaning. So again, I'm not sure which supporters you're referring to.

One only needs to look at Qwertys "RP posts" to see where I get that impression.

One of qwertys links was fulled with people who were going on and on about the shock the MSM was going to recieve when Paul won the nomination. They said he won a lot of straw polls and that proved he had the momentum to win.
