My pal, John the Botonist, has kids... and his kids go to an elementary school where lots of other kids in varying states of health attend... IOW, a typical school...
well... JtB had a cold at our morning workouts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday... ruh... and now, this AM, I awoke with the tell tale signs of the onset of a cold... a sore throat and some one turned on the faucet in my head... :bye:
I don't DO colds, generally speaking, as I'm quite anal when it comes to my health...
so...
:help: What's your favorite cold "cure"? :help:

Sore Throat - Gargle with salt water or sip a concoction of heated lemon juice with a little honey in it.
get plenty of rest asap and drink fluids.

I just whine a lot. It doesn't help me get over the cold, but it helps keep others from getting it.

Thanx, TaP... gonna go try the lemon and honey right now... except I'll have to use limes... don't have any lemons...
I have been drinking fluids and resting? No workout today... is forumphing considered resting? :ponder: I'm trying not to get into any deep discussions in spite of all the opportunities...[hr]

I've always liked hot DP and lemon... but I think I'll refrain from the extra sugar... thanks anyway, boogy...
On a side note: Do you realize that most sodapop has over 1.5 ounces of sugar per 12 oz can?

[hr]Here's what I used this am upon rising... I learned this from an herbalist 20 years ago...
1 tall glass of orange juice
1 TBL Olive Oil
2 crushed and chopped raw garlic cloves (yes, raw)
1 tsp cayenne pepper
stir and drink...
also: no coffee, no tea, no boo boo booze...

I've just finished gathering all of my medicines for the year.
For colds, it depends. If there's no sore throat, then I use elderberry bark tea mixed with mountain tea and red willow. Red willow has salicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin and will get rid of the aches and pains. Both elderberry bark and mountain tea have natural anti-virals and will kill the virus.
If there's a sore throat, scratchy throat and coughing, I add bear root to my tea. Bear root has a natural anesthetic and will sooth the cough and sore throat. If the cough is severe, then inhaling the steam from bear root will loosen the cough and clear the lungs.
Take care of yourself!

when you say gathered... do you mean you went out into the woods for them? or that you got them from a herbal supplier?

Yup, I go out from spring till fall gathering all kinds of different medicines, enough for my whole family. I'm kind of the pharmacy *G*.
Oh wow, I never knew bear root was called that. I just know the Indian/common names of things. There's a spiritual quality and songs and prayers that go with the harvesting and use of these medicines. It always seemed ..... I don't know, maybe disrespectful? of my people's knowledge to go and find the scientific names.
They really work. I'm not certain if you can find all of the ingredients but I know elderberry bark is out there, along with red willow and now bear root! Those three should knock out most symptoms for you.
