Bush triggered special conference in Department of State. And invited countries polluting atmosphere. Of course they talked about global warming et cetera, et cetera. :/ Americans just forgot to mention that they’re going to help glaciers on North Pole thawing. Because after tens years of unskillful mining USA have run out of natural resources. No wonder they’re so aggressive in their striving to get to energy supply of Middle East. For it would be energy catastrophe if they wouldn’t manage to.
So US need to secure themselves from loosing those sources in Middle East. And they’ve got already program of speeding-up thawing of North Pole glaciers for easing geological exploration of the Arctic Ocean bottom. They hope that global warming of climate would come in next 15-20 years. Then they would be assured in their safe future. I should think so if their general rival Europe would be partly sunken. And Great Britain will entirely drown.
If US would produce several local tsunami and would sink China (about the same they did with Thai coast two years ago) Yankees would completely rule the world.

Worldwide, most cities are on the coast, america included. Look at a population density map of the US and tell me what will happen if sea levels rise significantly. BTW, I live in Tampa Florida.

Very good point. The article assumes the US is built on stilts and wouldn't be affected. What would happen if half of New York was drowned?

between the great lakes and the two coasts, I guess we'd all be moving to uh.. St. Louis?

Enough about the Royals. George Brett is gone and he is never coming back. That sums up the future of the franchise right there.

I doubt there's a deliberate conspiracy to cause global warming and melt the arctic and get all the oil. It's also unlikely the US will run out of petrol so to speak. Petroleum can still be manufactured from coal gasification, or from refining tar sands. It's pretty much impossible to run out of it, but it does get more expensive to make - in both economic and environmental costs.

The real world is governed by personal profits and economic gains. There isn't a central brain planning these things. Energy companies do what they find cheapest. The ones that can't compete end up going broke. The ones that make profits dominate the market.

If Britain and Europe is confronted with rising sea levels, if the economic damage from flooding is great (i.e most of London) they will build dykes to hold back the sea. If it's a kids playground and someone's shed that gets submerged then it's not economical to build a dyke so they won't bother.

Also the arctic ice melting does absolutely nothing to sea levels as it's already floating in water in the first place. It's the Antartctic cap ice that I'm worried about, as that sits atop of land.

Melting of the polar ice would not raise ocean level, as stated already here.
Melting of landbased ice, from Siberia, Greenland, Canadian arctic, etc, will raise ocean level.

And its not just China or Europe. Florida would be underwater, as would be large parts of the US coastal habitats and most of its port cities of today, including the Mississippi delta and the US gulf coast.

Cheers :)

Erm... the US did not create the tsunami. You might want to brush up on your understanding of natural disasters.
