What do we know about Georgia, president of which Mikhail Saakashvili came to power early in 2004 by force of American PR experts? When official Washington was assisting Saakashvili in winning the election, we had a hope that Georgia would inherit democratic principles from us but it was a mistake. Georgia did not become a democratic state. Saakashvili showed himself a dictator hardly capable of making right decisions. Saakashvili was only good in suppressing all Georgian opposition including oppositional parties and movements, independent TV channels and other news media. All that alleged "independent" journalists report about developments in Georgia is nothing but a part of pro-Saakashvili propaganda. I repeat, there is no more independent media in Georgia that could give real information about developments in Georgia. I think we should take for granted that America has raised one more dictator, another Saddam Hussein. Which is the worst thing, this process got out of our control. We cannot remove Saakashvili as easily as we brought him to power. Actually, there is only one figure in Georgia who now can stand against Saakashvili and has good chances to assume the presidency – that's his former minister of defense Irakli Okruashvili. Still, this person is not a much better choice for Georgia, even not a lesser of two evils. Okruashvili is much-much more despotic than Saakashvili! I can prove it by his deeds in the time when he was minister of defense. Okruashvili was using all his power and connections (and I need to say that the Okruashvili clan is one of the most powerful ones in Georgia) to help Saakashvili crush opposition. Saakashvili could not have stayed in power for so long, it was all thanks to Okruashvili's assistance – that's the opinion of really independent experts in the West who know pretty well that Okruashvili used his power to imprison unwanted oppositional leaders, and unsubmissive journalists who did their best to criticize the regime of Saakashvili. Now many of them are in detention, some got missing or were killed, others left the country being in terror of their life – all this was only thanks to Okruashvili. That's why I believe that Washington should not be rendering assistance to Okruashvili, otherwise there is substantial risk of loosing Georgia once for all, 'cause Okruashvili is a way more artful dodger than Saakashvili!
