While we may believe
our world - our reality
to be that is - is but one
manifestation of the essence

Other planes lie beyond the reach
of normal sense and common roads
But they are no less real
than what we see or touch or feel

Denied by the blind church
'cause these are not the words of God
- the same God that burnt the knowing

- Lost Wisdom, Burzum

This may be offensive to some Christians but in context this is perfectly understandable. The writer of these lyrics is Norwegian, and obviously feels as though his country should have maintained the pre-christian pagan traditions. Christianity, while having its high points, was always a largely materialistic religion primarily due to the fact that its deeper meaning was far more greatly obscured in symbolism than in many other relgions, probably caused by when it originated. When Christianity came to Norway it brought with it not transcendental values, but materialistic destructive ones which tore apart a strong culture.

Now that we have context out of the way the words presented here should be able to be seen as profound. Those who already are religious will realise the meaning of the words more quickly than atheists, but it is the atheists here who should take the most notice of what is said. This may not make sense at first, but I urge you to think hard about it, whatever your beliefs are now.
