View Full Version : Possible Changes To Party Forums
We've debated this back and forth as staff.
As it stands now it's pretty much mudslinging one way or another.
No one is posting partisan critiques of their own party or platform oriented issues meant to bolster sentiment for leaders or party positions.
We've pretty much thrown up our hands for the time being and are at an impasse at how to handle it.Â*Â*There's a section for site feedback.
If you guys are unhappy with the format please make suggestions.
I think there is a relatively simple solution for what ails here. Eliminate the political parties Forum and create a US Politics Forum for political discussions. This would free up Current Events for non-political party oriented stuff (like the War in Iraq, immigration, etc.). Then anything having to do with politics or their parties would be in there open for all to comment on. There may some overlap on a few issues or matters but those would be easily solved by just moving threads to the proper Forum (with an explanation).
I'm not sure there is a need for private political party forums where avowed members can congregate and talk about matters without others seeing or posting in that forum. They were little more than bitch fests on other boards.
An alternative to the above idea is to only allow people who have registered as a Democrat or a Republican to start threads in that particular forum. Sign up as a Democrat, and you can post in the Democratic forum. Otherwise, post it in current events or one of the other specialized forums.

We have a lot of nationalities posting on this forum, limiting political discussion to US politics is a bad idea.
I dont see why discussion about all parties cant be made by all political orientations. So long as its civil, polite and not offensive, there shouldnt be any reason why Democrats cant post in the Republicans section or vice versa.
What your doing is trying to divide the members of this forum, which will not help anyone. Forcing people to post in different places because of their political beliefs is effectively an aparteid. This is an open political and debates forum, the key word being "open".

How about this, we make user groups for each party and only let members of that party post in their forum. I don't want to discuss conservative strategy with ratasman. From what I understand, the political parties forums were designed to allow discussion amongst that partys members. It has become a place where members of that party are required to defend their party and not discuss it.

I like to debate the other side, but a forum for just conservatives and just liberals would be pretty cool. If we were dividing the entire forums I would see a problem, but this is just giving a little area for members of a group to discuss things related to their party without having radicals of the other group jumping into the discussion and taking it over.

You are misinterpreting my suggestion. Have a registration list. If you sign up as a Democrat, you can start a thread in that forum. ANYONE can post there but only a Democrat can START a thread. Same with Republicans. Same with other parties. That would some semblence of order to those forums.
As they stand now, people who are not members of the respective parties are beginning threads in there and that's not what the descriptions of those forums allows.
If that suggestion doesn't light your fire, create a US politics forum and a World politics forum. Drop the party forums as they now exist. They are not being adhered to.
I just went and checked the "Democratic" Forum. There is only ONE thread on the current page that was started by someone I can identify as a Democrat. It's a "Bash The Democrats" Forum, if it is anything.
But if you all are happy with it...

But if you all are happy with it... I am, I love bashing Democrats! But I like to bash Republicans too. So many politicians, so little time:D

For what its worth I don't think the dem and repub forums should be turned into private forums for only those party members to post in and read. That wouldn't be any fun and then everyone would have to choose a side making the board far more cliquish.
Not to mention I've gotten kicked out of them on other boards for not being either conservative or liberal enough for that group.

This is most likely what will happen it's a good idea and it makes sense.
Post replies will be allowed by everyone but those who start threads should do so within their own political associated party. I don't see why someone considering themselves a Republican would start a thread in the Democrat section anyways.
I will consider ways to implement this.

That will help some, but people of the other party will still take over every topic.

Questons?
I don't vote so am I democrat or a republican, what if I want to be both depending on the candidate. I couldn't post in both threads could. It wouldn't really matter seeing as anything you can post in the dem or repub forum could most likely also be posted in current events but inquiring minds like to know.
