The largest government crisis has recently taken place in our Latvia. It’s common knowledge that the right party “New Times”, which decided to leave the ruling coalition under the guidance of People’s Party’s leader and present Premier, Aigars Kalvitis, provoked the crisis, because 6 ministers of our government from this party filed resignation.
And now Kalvitis’ Cabinet has no support of a parliamentary majority. This brings up the question - cui bono? It is clear that now in order to maintain the present government the Prime Minister will have to seek support from the opposition, in other words, from right-wing Latvian nationalists. But the matter is that they will never look for any ways of movement to contact with Moscow.
Thus, some forces in our state are working actively at falling apart of our present government coalition, which has charted a course of restoration of confidence and good-neighborly relations with Russia.
And there is no secret for Latvians who is their main sponsor. Certainly our overseas friends can not be interested in development of our relations with Russia. And acting in such a way, Washington plans to reduce our new President’s dependence of Kalvitis’ Cabinet, thereby stopping our present leadership from making advances with Moscow. But why are we tied to the chariot of the USA, having no thought of own independence and economic benefits?...
