It appears that the GAO is good enough for Representative Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) to trumpet about when she needs the information they have but claims it doesn't know what they are talking about when it tells her stuff she would rather not hear. Neocon hypocrite. Glad Mr Walker put her in her place.

Now that the GAO has reported that there is little to no progress in Iraq and that the administration may be cooking the books on levels of violence, conservatives are desperately trying to attack the agency’s credibility.

Today at a House International Relations Committee hearing, ranking member Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) attempted to claim that the GAO was unqualified to even render a judgment on the situation in Iraq. Describing the process of accountability as “unsettling,” Ros-Lehtinen complained, “I just feel uncomfortable listening to a report by the Government Accountability Office about a war effort.”

GAO Comptroller General David Walker responded by defending the agency’s experience in such matters. He explained the work the GAO does is based on “looking at hard data, interviewing qualified individuals, and appropriate parties have an opportunity to review and comment on our work.” Walker added that military experience is not a necessary requirement to offer a qualified opinion:

The President and the Vice President have no military or foreign policy experience. Does that mean I don’t respect their opinion? I do. They’ve got a lot of people who work for them that do. So I think it’s a false claim to say you know we’re not qualified to do this work. We’re eminently qualified to do this work.

Later, Walker added, “For the record, It’s my understanding that Secretary of Defense Gates does not have any military experience either. So frankly, I think we need to stick with the facts.

Ros-Lehtinen has had no problem citing the work of the GAO in a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff or enlisting the GAO’s resources to pursue her agenda. It’s only when she doesn’t like the agencies’ conclusions that she finds fault with the work of the office.

It's the neocon way, Viola. It's duplicated here at DF on a daily basis.

It's such an uneducated, unintelligent thing to do. She sounds like a real idiot, “I just feel uncomfortable listening to a report by the Government Accountability Office about a war effort.”

So what does she think? That no one has to be held accountable for how the war is waged?

Are you refuting the claim about the congresswoman or the one about DF?

Rep.Ros-Lehtinen is a perfect example of how anyone can be elected to Congress if they have enough money. And that is true irregardless of party. Every time I hear the Congresswoman speak, she sounds like a wind-up doll. I wonder who thinks for her?

Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen is at best a spokeswoman for the Cuban refugees in Fla. She represents their interests, and no one elses. She puts their interest above the interests of the American people as a whole. Which often makes her unpatriotic and rather stupid.

One Issue congress-critters often "out" themselves in the ignorance department after a while. Seems like Ros-Lehtinen has done just that.

It's in the righty "play" book, without it they'd be toast... and you know as well as I, ECW, it's not just here that they use it.

I'm sorry my friend but Ms.Ros-Lehthinen represents my district and it seems here that nobody supports her so i will put my foot on that matter and I will back her up. She does represent the Cuban-Exile communities interest but what makes you think she is un-patriotic because she disagrees with the GAO? Anybody could disagree with something. Hell even Pres. Bush and Cheney have disagreed with each other so what gives?

She puts their interest above the interests of the American people as a whole

Does she really? She actually supports our troops and actually cares for the interest of Americans and actually cares about winning the war in Iraq unlike the normal Democratic rhetoric of winning the war by removing troops from the hot spots.

My condolences on your representative. I have Senators Cornball and Huckabuck down here so I know what it's like to be "represented" by a couple of retards.

Fact of the matter is that Rep. Ros-Lehthinen decided to attack the GAO when she didn't like what it happened to say and had no basis for doing so except her own prejudices and neocon philosophy. She had no problem with it when it suited her purposes but then to come out and question their oversight, the very mission the office was created to do, because they came up with conclusions that made her position on the war untenable is hypocrisy of the first degree. The GAO is non-partisan. They deal in facts and figures, stuff that neocon representatives seem to avoid like the plague.

Go back and look what was posted. The "unpatriotic" charge came because she often puts the interests of her Cuban-American constituency above the interests of the nation as a whole according to Heyjude, NOT because she disagrees with the GAO. Disagreeing with the GAO doesn't make you unpatriotic, it makes you appear stupid, that's all. She's in fine company, though. Stay The Course!
