Has there even been a female equivalent of an Archie Bunker, Ralph Kramden, Tim Taylor (i.e., Tim Allen’s Tool Time character), Sam Malone (Ted Danson’s character on Cheers)?
Why is it that society finds such insensitive and inept male characters OK when a female character who acted the way these male characters do would not last a single TV season? Why is it acceptable for TV to portray men this way?

When you realize that men have been in power since the dawn of time, and white men for the last 500 years and only in the last 50 years have women had ANY power, then you'll realize why T.V. is the way it is. By the way, for every T.V. oaf you mention above each had a subserviant partner. Archie had Edith, who usually did as told. Ralph had Alice, who stayed married to him and was in the subserviant role. Tim's wife, if I'm not mistaken was a home maker at first then had a part time job, she may have "played" smarter but was still married to and stayed with Tim. As to Sam, look at his long term relationships one was to a barmaid the other to an idiotic boss.
Look at all those you mentioned, Archie, Ralph, Tim and Sam ruled the roost, were Kings of their respective castles and, for the most part, had the love and respect of those around them. In the end even Meathead and Archie showed their love for one another.
I don't think men have it as bad as you think on T.V.
