We are born, and then we learn and acquire sensations, experience and beliefs, which cause bubbles to form around our thinking and boxes to limit our actions. If the communities in which we live are supportive of those restrictions, we are Politically Correct. Our community has a hand in influencing and shaping our fixations, and limits us to what it prefers for us, a politically correct life. Being politically correct means, our bubbles and boxes resemble everyone else’s bubbles and boxes. We are synchronized. That is what most people look for in community, people who are synchronized to think and act alike, so that community becomes its own bubble and box.
When our reasoning, thinking mind and growing personal self-interests take hold of us, actually controlling us, we have to break free of the community bubble and box. Otherwise, we have to alter our fixations and change the natural course of our lives. Without altering our own nature, we will have a serious internal struggle with the community bubble and box. Individual minds and hearts can rise above the PC bubble and box ceiling of community, even if it is a struggle. Community, however, cannot rise above itself. Community can and does drag individual minds and hearts back into its struggle-free, PC comfort zone and its bosom of community-shared bubble and box fixations.
Picture community as a large shallow pan filled with live crabs. They move all around each other, over the tops of each other, and, occasionally, one will attempt to crawl out of the pan itself. It is at that point the crabs nearest the one attempting escape reach up and pull the escapee back down into the community of crabs. Escape is almost impossible, because most of those trapped in the bubble and box of community cannot stand the idea of one of their kind thinking and acting on their own. They must justify their PC!
Imprisoned, as we may be, in a politically correct bubble and box, keeps community intact. It takes great strength of character and purpose to rise above the PC of community, to think out of the bubble and live out of the box. Few have the drive and aspirations today to rise up and above the PC limits. Those who do, however, usually lift everyone in community with them, even when some are kicking and screaming. If one is successful in his journey going above the ceiling of community, sharing the rewards of thought and deed, the ceiling of community also rises. Those in community, who want only to maintain the PC status quo, will fight any changes caused by a creative, innovative, high-spirited member who rocks their boat and shakes their pan.
Europe, Asia, Africa and South America, are the big shallow pans containing the Old World PC crabs. Each pan may be constrained by its own bubble and box, but it has always required a leader to decide what those in the pan will do to survive. Then, the leader of one pan may also have to do battle with the leader of a neighboring pan, for booty or power, which is to increase the size of the winning pan.
A bunch of crabs escaped their British pan back in 1620 and settled in a new land far away. They tried to make their own pan and follow their own PC system, but the crab was out of the bag and really did not want to slip back into a community bubble and box. Instead, they spread out over the land, mated with other crabs and formed small pans or families. They had to develop and use their own talents and skills. They had to pursue their own aspirations in a hostile land, or be eaten. They discovered they could break free of their own bubbles limiting thought, and could think and reason for themselves. They discovered they could live free of a box once imposed on them by community, and they created, built, invented and prospered beyond all previous experience. They were free of the pan and the PC limitations once imposed on them by others.
Those free and independent crabs created a nation of many shallow pans that was fee of a limiting bubble of thought. It was free of the limits of a box whose walls restricted their actions, and the nation of small pans grew and grew until it became the wealthiest, most prosperous nation in the world. It was so inviting to other free-spirited crabs they too crawled out of their pans and headed for America, that wonderful land of elbowroom. The leaders of the Old World pans were disturbed, losing so many of their own crabs. They sent crabs to America to get the American crabs to retreat back to a pan with their bubble and box Politically Correct way of life, where only the interests of the pan community counted. They had to kill the idea that crabs could be free to shape and pursue their own interests.
Now, we come to the election campaigns of 2007-2008, where one side represents the leaders of the Old World community pans, trying to convince the majority of American crabs they need to get back into the bigger PC community pan. The other side is still trying to convince the majority of American crabs that their prosperity came only from individual freedom and being free of the limiting bubbles and boxes imposed by community leaders. Who will win?
