I have been trying to figure out just what Rapture is supposed to be and what is supposed to happen when and if it happens.
I know is has something to do with the faithful, alive and/or dead, rising up to heaven to spend eternity with God. And that before that happens there will be a period of tribulation.
question one: Since I have heard fundamentalists and their preachers say that this event is just around the corner. If so, how come nobody seems to be freaking out. Even if it is supposed to take everyone to a good place, I would imagine just losing everything that we know and love, here on hearth has got to be gut wrenching and heart wrenching but no body is in a tizzy. No body is packing. Nobody is having family reunions just incase they dont all rise up. And certainly, nobody seems to be hunting for tickets that will ensure them a place on that heavenly elevator. How come? If everyone is going up to heaven very soon now, shouldnt something be going on besides just prayer and singing? I have this strong feeling that while those who profess belief in the rapture talk a good game, they really dont think anything is going to happen...now or in the future.
Now, keep in mind.....I am not mocking the idea of rapture. I'm just asking questions. Questions like these.......
Once we all rise up, or at least those of us picked to rise up, where will we stay? Will there be homes like we now have or apartments or condos?
Will we appear as we do now or will we look better. Will a 70 year old man or women spend the rest of eternite looking like a 70 year old or can we go back to look as we did in our teens or twenties? And if we meet family members up there, will we recognize them or they us?
Will we have jobs to do, like we do now or will we just lounge around on clouds playing harps all day? Inactivity is very very boring.
Next, what is our guarantee that we will spend eternity with people we personally like? What if an insufferable boor shows up on the next cloud. Do we have to spend eternity with him or can we move? Of get him to move?
What about food. Now, I can see where salt free or low calorie diets wont be needed. That will be good. But what about junk food? We all like a little junk food every once in a while. Are there MacDonalds or Burger Kings or Starbucks in heaven. What about Pizza?
Will we have to exercize every day or do pilates or pump iron? That can be a drag. For me, its a drag now. But for etermity??????
Finally, will we still carry cellphones, watch TV or DVD's or listen to iPods.
I just want to be prepared if it happens tomorrow or even tonight. But, you know, whatever happens, I am strangely calm and looking forward to another round of golf on Saturday.
