We're all partially slaves now what's the big deal? Think about it: If 50% or so of your hard earned wealth is taxed away (all levels of government), what are you doing? In effect, forced labor for faceless masters. What kind of society are we living in?

Good analogy Fox. And of course, Zo is implying that conservatives are all evil. What he failed to mention is that just a few decades ago, most of those southern states were blue. "Southern Democrat" ring a bell? Those states turned red because the Democrat Party abandoned their base when they made that hard left turn. There's an aweful lot of red on that map! :P 'Tis a beautiful thing.[/i]

I don't think it means anything about slavery at all. But there is a connection. The slave states banded together to fight for their right to keep the slaves. During the Civil Rights movement, as LBJ gave African American equal rights he also signed the south over to the conservatives. The connection is about loyalties in changing values during history. The Bush administration is just the latest chapter.
Barack Obama talks about this in Audacity of Hope.

It's not about republican or democrats. It's about the progessive areas on the nation being relatively consistent. The areas that pushed for equal rights then tend do it now as well.

I think it is interesting that I discovered back in May 2007 that the Republican Party was founded on an anti-slavery basis. It also pushed for women's voting rights.
