With the value of US$ vs CAD$ dives down to almost parity level, who else is thinking this will give a boost to those promoting the Introduction of the Amero?
No big story, just an opinion. :D

Oh god, I haven't even been looking at this since my last (failed) trip to Canada. I was just looking at stuff last night and the prices haven't changed. When I was there the price, before tax, was about equal when converted, and stuff that had a msrp that was set 6 months or a year earlier was often significantly more expensive in canada. Seems like they haven't adjusted the prices of things for this yet. Great, my next trip to Canada is going to put an even bigger dent in my wallet than I expected.

Yeah gotta love a rapidly devaluing USD eh? I recently read that it is at its lowest point compared to CAD since the early 70s.

My charts only go back as far as 1978 but as you can see, it's pretty clear how bad the situation is right now for the USD.

The concept of the Amero is naive. As the two currencies approach parity, the idea of the Amero becomes even more and more remote.

First of all, there is nothing stopping Canadians from using the U$A today for practically all of their transactions and vice versa, Americans using the CAN$.
So the question must be asked: who would impose a common currency???

The reality is that neither the American nor the Canadian governments have an incentive to give up the power of issuing its own currency.

Perhaps, but they're all going down hill in the long run :'(.

Why would the richest countries in the world align it's currency to Canada? We are about 12x larger as an economy.

Sure, let's implement the Amero and go ahead and dissolve the USA while we're at it.

Why Amero? Does Amero have sign like dollar ($), euro (€) or pound (£)? No... at least I haven't seen one, so why not adapt euro ;)

so why not adapt euro Hmmm... Let's see how to respond to that in a civil way...... F_ck the Euro. Sorry, but I think you guys sold yourselves out when you conglomerated your money. I think one's national currency is part of one's national identity.

It's all essentially worthless fiat currency so who cares? I think that Mayberry is a crazy nationalist (no offense), but I would be into the USD if it somehow magically went back to being 100% backed with a banking system that wasn't fractional reserve. Given that that won't happen, I'll hang onto my metals!

I think that Mayberry is a crazy nationalist (no offense), None taken. But what exactly is wrong with being nationalist? I don't want to be sucked up by some damned American Union. What good has it done for Europe? They're all still half socialist and horribly overtaxed. What makes you think the same won't happen here?

I do think the same thing would happen here. My position differs from yours in that I don't believe in borders or nation-states at all. I think people should be free to travel wherever they want to as long as they aren't harming others.
