I'd understand if they just wanted to keep the ruins like they were built.. if it IS a holy city... then its a threat to them if a Christian IS there.
But religion destroys us all. A country that FORCES the inhabitants to believe in one faith alone makes me really uncomfortable..

I make a practice of not believing anything I see in World Nut Daily unless it's verified by a real source.

Same here Buck, so I checked and it was also in the Jerusalem Post, a source
I trust.....but you see, "The Grand Mosque and the holy city are forbidden
to non-Muslims," so the title of the thread is a bit misleading. The man
could have been a Hindu, a Jew, an athiest, hell it doesn't matter because
the building is only for muslims. Now you may not like it, I may not like it and it seems that Yushimi really doens't like it........but then I suggest that you don't go to another country and don't follow their rules. I freely admit I don't know too much about the different sects, but I am learning, especially from jafar.......and from what I understand you don't want to not follow the Wahhibist rules.

When Saudi authorities discovered a man working in Mecca was a Christian, they immediately arrested him, highlighting the desert kingdom's law barring non-Muslims from the Islamic holy city.
The Saudi regime's Expatriates Monitoring Committee used a new high-tech finger-print system to identify Nirosh Kamanda of Sri Lanka as a Christian, reported Arab News, the government-approved English-language paper.
"The Grand Mosque and the holy city are forbidden to non-Muslims," said Col. Suhail Matrafi, head of the department in charge of Expatriates Affairs in Mecca. "The new fingerprints system is very helpful and will help us a lot to discover the identity of a lot of criminals and overstayers."
Highway sign warns non-Muslims not to stray on wrong path
Kamanda came to the Saudi city of Dammam to work as a truck driver and left his sponsor to sell goods near Mecca's Grand Mosque, Arab News reported. The sponsor reportedly denied he knew where Kamanda was working.
"He fled six months after coming to the kingdom," the sponsor said. "I have no idea how he reached Mecca."
Arab News said that after Kamanda's identity became known, he admitted he was a Christian and had come to Mecca to earn money.
(Story continues below)
"I heard that Mecca is a safe place, where I could hide my identity," he said.
The U.S. State Department, in its annual reports on human rights worldwide, consistently has stated "religious freedom does not exist" in Saudi Arabia, which is dominated by the strict Wahhibist interpretation of Islam. In the kingdom, the State Department says, non-Muslim "worshippers risk arrest, imprisonment, lashing, deportation and sometimes torture for engaging in religious activity that attracts official attention."
The Saudi royal family has stated it permits non-Muslims to practice their own religion in the privacy of their homes, but many arrests have been made of worshippers in house churches.
In 2004, for the first time, the State Department named Saudi Arabia a "country of particular concern," subjecting it to possible sanctions for egregious and ongoing violations of religious freedom.
In the U.S., an estimated 80 percent of mosques are supported largely with funds and imams from Saudi Arabia.
As WorldNetDaily reported, the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings in 2005 in response to a yearlong study by a Washington human-rights group asserting the government of Saudi Arabia is disseminating propaganda through American mosques that teaches hatred of Jews and Christians and instructs Muslims that they are on a mission behind enemy lines in a land of unbelievers.
Responding to the report by the Center for Religious Freedom at Freedom House, 15 senators, including Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice demanding the Bush administration take stronger action against Riyadh.

To those of you who seem to be trying to deny Jesus...... Read your Bible, it will scare the Hell out of you! You are no doubt really young and really ...... oh well, I'll not say that. You get the message now don't you? Jesus loves you no matter what. He wants you to be with Him when this life is over. You are an eternal being; you were not evolved from a monkey. The choice is completely yours to make. No one knows when this life will be over. When it is, will you be ready for the next step in awareness? Do you deny that your soul exist? Do you deny that evil exist? Think about it. Do you think that telling others that God is not real makes you unique? It doesn't folks. It says in the Bible that this will happen. If you really want to be unique, accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be truly unique. God Bless.

The Lord said this would happen and He was right, 2000 years ago He knew this would happen. I feel so very sorry for you and I'm so very serious about that. May someday, you find the truth. May you be enlightened before it's too late and may God Bless you.

That's facinating...........but I don't know what denying Jesus or any other part of your post has to do with non Muslims not being allowed in Mecca.

The Lord said this would happen and He was right, 2000 years ago He knew this would happen.
By "Lord" I'm assuming you mean Jesus(as) Son of Mary? I've read the Bible quite extensively and I have no recollection of him saying someone would be arrested in Mecca for disobeying law in 2007. Please enlighten me.

Sorry to disappoint you CWN, but his throat wasn't cut.
While I personally disagree with this law and believe people of other religions should be able to visit the Grand Mosque to learn about Islam without persecution, this guy disobeyed the law and deserves to be punished for it.
You can't just turn up in another country and disobey their laws whether you disagree with them or not. You tend to get into trouble.
If you really want to be unique, accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be truly unique. God Bless.
Not a great post. Rather off topic. Besides, you confuse the issue by telling everyone to accept the Holy Prophet Jesus(as) as a saviour, then end the post with "God Bless". This thread is about someone going to Saudi Arabia and disobeying the law by the way.

I agree with you about the law being unjust. But I don't think he deserved to be punished. If he didn't know about the law then he definately shouldn't be punished. While it's a more minor example, I remember getting a ticket in Canada for not understanding canadian carpool lanes, as the symbol used and where they were located was very different than in the u.s. I thought I should have been warned, I didn't think a ticket was justified. But, if he did know, then I still think he shouldn't be punished, just as blacks shouldn't have been punished for using whites only drinking fountains.

Unfortunately ignorance is not a good defense. But it seems he knew he was breaking the law. Apart from it being made very clear that non-muslims are forbidden to enter the area without a special permit, he did say "I heard that Mecca is a safe place, where I could hide my identity,"

Who said religion is based on fear?!?
You are no doubt really young and really ...... oh well, I'll not say that.
Yeah, I don't agree with your religion, so I'm young and...
Didn't George Carlin call religion arrogance disguised as humility?
You are an eternal being; you were not evolved from a monkey.
:D:D:D
When it is, will you be ready for the next step in awareness?
I'd love to be able to have a relationship with invisible beings. Could you teach me?
Do you deny that your soul exist?
yes.
Do you deny that evil exist?
As a spiritual concept?
yes.
Think about it. Do you think that telling others that God is not real makes you unique?
No.
It makes me sane.
Do you think that believing in Christian mythology makes you unique?
It doesn't folks. It says in the Bible that this will happen.
And the Bible is the best source of factual evidence...
If you really want to be unique, accept Jesus as your Savior and you will be truly unique. God Bless.
Because, as we all know, believing something without any proof makes you unique.
Get a dictionary and look up the word "unique."

May God Bless you anyway and may someday before it's too late, you'll know the truth. Not what you think is the truth now because you’re listening to Satan's lies and he has you right where he wants you. He has you publicly denying the existence of any good or any evil except by mans own hand. Yes, God is to be feared. He can allow you into Heaven or He can allow you to live in Hell for eternity. That is scary. I live as you are now until I spent 4 weeks in a coma caused by an operation on a 12 inch aneurism at my Aorta where is enter my heart. I was saved when I was a child and then turned away from God for a great many, many years. Through His grace alone was I able to come back. I could write a book about what I saw when I was in the coma but I will not. Suffice to say, I now not just believe in God, I know for a fact He lives as does Jesus and God’s Holy Spirit. I will pray for you and don’t tell me how it’s a waist of time. No one on this earth can say what will happen within the next few seconds. God can! Quoting me is just silly. You know so much about God's Holy Bible, quote it instead. When I say I will pray for you, I am so very serious. God loves you and that’s good enough for me.
