View Full Version : FREEDOM IS VERY FRAGILE

The idea that individuals could have the freedom to pursue their own legitimate self-interests is, in the stream of world history, a new idea. It has no roots in tradition, other than in America since it grabbed men’s mind almost 400 years ago. It is too new. It lacks stability when confronting the more accepted ideas of a few elite ruling the many. Without freedom, the few decide which interests can be pursued and by whom. The idea of freedom is easily lost, as we see in America today. A major political faction feeds and grows on the envy of those not sharing equally in the successes of some. Individual liberty is a fragile concept unless reintroduced to each new generation with enthusiasm from those in the established generation. Obviously, with the schools, news and entertainment media in complete opposition to the idea of freedom, it is being allowed to die out of our experience and consciousness.

Geez, LIFE is fragile, much less freedom and everything else, don't you think?

Freedom is NOT a new idea...just the right to freedom for everyone. It's also not fragile at all. I dare you to even attempt to remove someones freedom. I dare you.

Don't You Have The ability to restrict the freedom of people on Your website?

It is completely fragile. Ask any military veteran and they will all tell you that LIFE is much more fragile than freedom, because....
You give your life for freedom.

There are many in this world who think they are free because their government tells them so, and if they don't accept that, they may go to a reindoctrination camp to be properly re-informed that they are free. There is a BIG difference to the way Americans used to believe about their freedom, but today it is being lost. Just try to stand up in a crowd and say Global Warming caused by people is wrong, and see how much freedom you have. The Democrats want you to vote for them so you may all have equality as well, even if it tramples on the freedom of some who still believe life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are God-given and not Democrat Party given.

Freedom is NOT a new idea

Freedom was invented by Jesus and Thomas Jefferson, the later no doubt inspired by his plantation of slaves.

Jesus invented essentially nothing, practically all his "unique" ideas can be found in either his contemporary or earlier religious figures. And, even if he did, the understanding of freedom was radically different then and now, or even to that of Thomas Jefferson.

Many societies viewed themselves as free. Most famously the Greeks did. The concept of freedom has changed. Thomas Jefferson is a good one, but Jesus isn't.

There is a BIG difference to the way Americans used to believe about their freedom, but today it is being lost. Just try to stand up in a crowd and say Global Warming caused by people is wrong, and see how much freedom you have.

Yup, I mean people utilizing their right to oppose and condemn you certainly has nothing to do with freedom. I mean we used to have the freedom to speak unoposed.

The Democrats want you to vote for them so you may all have equality as well, even if it tramples on the freedom of some who still believe life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are God-given and not Democrat Party given.

I'm not even sure of the point there.

Egads Zo, it's called sarcasm.

And technically, Jesus invented everything.

Good day/

Actually NO...I have the right to protect and run MY website how I want...I am expressing ultimately MY freedom which you can't take away.

You as a member here are free to do what you want...consequences may still occur but you still have that freedom.

I've had 8 hours sleep in the past 3 days and my sarcasm detector must not have been working. Not that it's very good anyway.

Wow! I went back to reread the original post and couldn't seem to relate it to the replies. I have to believe some of you are so defensive about your anti-American feelings that you would read into the word "Chevrolet" a threat to the logic of Cicero if he were to debate the issue of Greek freedoms that were allowed some Greeks, but not others, because the others don't count and are probably Republicans, and so what the hell does this have to do with what I wrote. Augustine said that belief precedes understanding. I'd have to amend that and say it is the wall that prevents reason from even getting in. Again....Wow!

Alonzo......two points.
First.....there is a difference between Freedom and License. Do you know that difference? Look it up.

Second......You are right, Jesus did not invent freedom. Do you know where that idea came from. Remember, when Jesus was alive, there was no such thing as Christianity. It was either Judaism or Paganism. Everything that Jesus said in his life stems from the Torah because that was the only source at the time.
