Australias Parties

Here in Australia we have to main parties.
Liberal Party* - The party in power. I know this might sound funny, but our liberal party are right wing.
Labour - The oppostion party. They're the left wing party because the were born out of the unions.

*The Liberals are part of a coalition with the National party, who represent the rural areas of Australia.

The word liberal comes from the word liberty. I will stop my efforts to raise awareness of what democracy is all about, when the US right stops attacking the liberal left. Everyone who loves liberty should be liberal.

But how is it that liberals can be right wingers? What how is this manifest? What are they for and against?
