Post your favorite band that most people haven't heard of. Including an audio or video clip if you want so people can get a better idea of what they're like.

My pick is Rasputina. Here's a sample of one of their songs called "My little shirtwaist fire":

And a clip of one of their songs live. Not the best song, but gives a good idea of their typical dress and their focus on cello's.

They added the guy to the band a few years ago. He typically has an amish style beard and wears amish style clothes, though he's not really dressed that way here.

Unfortunately most of the obscure stuff I know of, doesn't have youtube vids ;)

Here's one which is the not so obscure Dead Can Dance who are known for taking ancient and often anonymous manuscripts in various languages and making them their own. The lead vocalist, Lisa Gerrard has always been one of my favourite singers. She is also a confirmed legend amongst Goth teenagers (or middle aged former Goths now hehe).

In keeping with the thread theme here is a live version of their track Cantara.

I have all the Dead Can Dance CD's. :) Do you like "This Mortal Coil" as well?

I guess one of my favs that are totally unknown is Caterwaul.

Also this Big Black (Steve Albini) video/song kicks ass.

But..I also listen to extreme eclectic stuff too like Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Coil, Meat Beat Manifesto (one of my all time favs), Current93, Death In June, Deconstruction, Human Drama, The Swans, Lard, Killing Joke, Pigface, Soul Coughing (awesome funky rock band), The Stone Roses, Test Dept, and Xmal Deutschland. Those are bands you might not know that I am a fan of. If you have questions or want to hear samples let me know.

The past year I have become an incredibly Tori Amos fan but you most likely have heard of her. She is amazing..I have accumulated all her albums (store bought because I don't believe in stealing music).

I used to be really into goth music and I knew a bunch of people who loved dead can dance. I still listen to some of the music, but I only pay attention to bands that have been around since I was following it.

Though Tori amos is great, she's been my favorite singer, or at least one of the top 2 or 3, for years. I have all her cd's, except for the recent piano collection one (package looks like part of a piano).

Caterwaul sounds pretty good. I'll have to look in them.

Of course I do. I was a bit of a 4AD junkie back in the day :D

Speaking of 4AD, heres another good one. Lush :D Unfortunately the quality isn't that good.

Edit...

OMG. Look what I found.

An absolute classic. A song that defines my early 20's and brings memories flooding back!

Ahh...the 80s. Some of the best music to ever be produced. Sadly the 90s sucked and so far the past 7 years of this decade has produced nothing but crap. I think Rock died with Kurt Cobain.

If you dont particularly like metal, then skip to 1:24 and listen to the chorus.

He is also the lead singer and song writer for opeth (voted best singer for metal)

/edit Note that the voice you here there, is exactly what you hear in concert, no effects.

R.L. Burnside.

Old bluesman. Interesting story; convicted of murder. Had this to say [I kid you not]:
"I didn't mean to kill nobody, I just meant to shoot the sonuvabitch in the head, his dying was between him and the Lord."

So anyway, he was a sharecropper during the time of the murder, the guy who he works for comes in, pulls some strings with the judge, Burnside only serves 6 months.

Great bluesman, great guitarist, unique sound.

R.L. At the Office

He's also in Hell right now, odds are. This is him talking about the dude he killed

This is the best little electric blues band I've ever heard. I discovered them as they played back-up to Bo Diddley in a gig in Lincoln, Nebraska. I wish they posted more of their videos on YouTube but all there are are snippets of his bar performances. This guy kicks serious ass with a guitar.
