Is anyone interested in starting a DF bookclub? With summer comming up, I would love to keep reading and discussing some sort of smart books.
I was thinking we could go on a monthly basis. For example, for June we could read Book A. June 1-14 is reading time, no discussion. 15th-30/31st would be a discussion time. Of course for readers it takes longer, they can always jump in at anytime.
As far as choosing the books, we could go with popular political best sellers, classics, whatever. I am open to anything.
Is anyone interested in this idea?

Here's an idea I had. With the 08 election comming up and so many canidates having had written books, we could go through the books of the canidates. We would alternate, one dem one GOP.
Thoughts??

Good point. We need alternatives for those who are chronically close minded.

Stoner it might be good for you to read a lib book. It wouldn't be fun for me to read a GOP book either, but I would learn about how that republican thinks and how those who support him/her back up their beliefs.

Even if we don't do the presidential hopefuls, I do think it would be good to come up with some sort of schedule alternating the party affiliation of the book.
I was thinking this:
June: Republican
July: Democrat
August: Misc
and so on.
The Misc could be a libertarian book, controversial best seller or a seasonal special. If another party becomes a significant population on the forum we can work them into the schedule.
The schedule would go something like this:
1-14: read the book for this month.
15-30/31: discuss book
We could close the thread or leave it open. I'm for leaving it open.
While this is going on-
8-15: suggest titles for next month's book
15-22: vote, the top one wins
On the 22cd the book would be announced. This would give everyone from the 22cd opf the previous month to the 14th of the next month to finish the book.
Anyone can participate at anytime. This way if you are busy one month, don't like the book, ect you can not do it one month and still get back in the game.
