Star Wars is the best series
Dune is the one I want know more about the most (meaning I would like more movies to expand on the story)
And Lexx is the one I want to watch the most (meaning I'm never going to be satisfied with the amount of Lexx episodes and films there are)

Those are the only sci fi movies and series I like.

Though my favorite movie is Quills.

I think we'll be able to tell age differences here, in fact this is really odd my grandson and I were discussing this just the other day. I say Star Wars and he said Lord of the Rings, but then we got to discussing the special effects (of the first three) and he agreed for the time period they were made it was great. But he still stuck by his original LOTR for story line. Go figure.

Though my favorite movie is Quills.

It was a good movie, but then I like Geoffry Rush. If we're going to go into all time favorites, I'd have to go with Raise the Red Lantern. The colors alone are worth watching it for. Got me hooked on foreign movies.

Meh...

Star Wars is OK.

The whole Princess Leha, Hon Solo, Luke thing through the first two movies (or, OMG!! Excuse me, the 4th and 5th) was fairly lame.

Well, same here. But I've watched Star Wars so many times that I've memorized nearly every line from all 6 movies.

Example.
Sandtrooper: "Let me see your identification."
Obi-wan: "You don't need to see his identification."
Sandtrooper: "We don't need to see his identification."
Obi-wan: "These aren't the droids you're looking for."
Sandtrooper: "These aren't the droids we're looking for."

Etc...

I think it depends on exactly how you define best. If you define best as revolving around the high points of the series, then I think I'd probably have agree with you on Star Wars. If, however, best is defined as more of an average across all the movies, then the complete and utter suckitude of episodes 1 and 2 seriously damage Star Wars' claim. For overall average greatness, then I'd have to go with Lord of the Rings. It never QUITE reaches Star Wars' high points, but there's also no parts that I'm trying to pretend don't exist either. And hey, at least they didn't try to claim that all the magic was because of germs...

I think the Matix films are also pretty high on that list. I know a lot of people don't like 2 and 3, but I think a lot of people just don't get them.
