When googling people's usernames I began to wonder why people picked them, what do they mean to you?

I go to Northeastern, people call me cynical...I'm really not, just incredibly sarcastic...But hey, it made for a decent username.

I wandered away before I could answer mine, I've got some serious ADD this morning. :P

Mine is because I am very close to a former college teacher. My dad and I have a very bad relationship and he is sort of a father substitute.

I like flowers. I've been "known" as tulip and lilac a long time ago. Lily can be typed with one hand, so I don't have to put my cigarette or coffe down when logging in also why I don't capitalize it......now is that lazy or what? Guess our usernames sometimes really do say who we are.

Professor, as I tell my doctor that is my only vice, otherwise I would be perfect and only God is perfect. Seriously I can't eat sweets, not to sound complaining or like an old geezer due to the diabetes my liver and kidneys aren'tÂ*Â*that good, so drinking is out, don't get into porn that much, so what do I have left?

My screen name is the same one I use everywhere.

Buck Laser
04-25-2007, 03:56 PM
Buck Laser began life as a redneck homophobic right-wing alter-ego. After awhile, it became plain that using a variation of my own name might invite some unwelcome stalkers, so I began using Buck, and shifted to my real self. I'm not too good at pretending to be what I am, so what you see is pretty much what you get.

BoogyMan

I picked up this one after watching Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas and that stupid Oogyboogyman song stuck in my head.

Nice! I love that movie.

Alonzo
04-25-2007, 08:09 PM
I've been an Alonzo Mourning fan since 1992, when he entered the NBA. On AOL years ago it was impossible to pick a name due to most I tried being taken. I wanted a name with Michael Jordan in it, but chose my second favorite player (Zo) and Michael Jordans number (23). Only once did I ever try to use the name and it was taken. Over the years it's simply become my online name. The name itself has practically lost all of its previous meaning, to the point that when someone makes a comment about Alonzo Mourning it takes me a while to figure out what they're talking about.

Gee, and I use my real name in the hopes of gaining stalkers :)

Seriously, I have enough trouble remembering everything that I have to from day to day, if I drifted away from my real name on forums and other online venues I'd end up in a rubber room reading that self-help book for schizophrenics, "I'm Okay and So Am I".

So, I use either scottbannon or sbannon everywhere and have never had to worry about trying to find myself...

Shows how much I know about sports......all this time I thought it was some obscure author.

I had no idea.

Lily, if that is your only vice, you are a good woman. If I were to list my vices...well, remember the quoting thread? It might look something like that.

Me too. I do know who Michael Jordan is, and now that you mention the "23", I even recognize his jersey number. I figured "alonzomourning" was a reference to some very sad event.:P

On another forum, there was a guy who sent me his phone number and wanted to arrange for us to meet somewhere to duke it out. Being the lily-livered coward that I am, I didn't call him. He self-destructed in another couple of posts anyway, and got banned.

My schizophrenia book is something like "I'm OK, But I'm a Fruitcake!":P

I believe it brings a degree of credibility and accountability to as not to hide on forums.

Well Buck.........since this is a thread about user names, I resent the use of lily-livered!

Drocket
04-26-2007, 05:40 AM
Somewhere around '96 or so, I decided that I wanted my own 'personal' online identity - something that would be entirely my own, so I set out with the goal of creating an entirely new word (think something along the lines of 'Kodak'). It had to be something that had never been used by anyone else as a user name (anywhere), wasn't a word (in any language), was easy to spell and remember, and had to be available as a domain name. It turned out to be a pretty massive project. I went through hundreds upon hundreds of names that turned out to be disqualified by the previously mentioned restrictions. Eventually, I came up with Drocket. I've told some people that have asked that it stands for 'dragon sprocket' (combining my love of fantasy and technology), but it really doesn't - it was just available.

Regarding Churchel's comment about hiding one's identity: at this point, I really don't feel like I do. Drocket is my name, just as much as my birth name is. Possibly more so, since Drocket is 'mine'. In the past few years, I HAVE had some problems with other people using my name in different places. That's something that really, really annoys me...

ECW
04-26-2007, 06:14 AM
I use different names on different forums so that it's easier to remember where I met someone based on what screen name they call me. Each represents a different aspect of my real persona. ECW is what you got here: the initials of a wrestling organization which stands for Extreme Championship Wrestling, the most over the top bunch of hardcore wrestlers that ever hit the squared circle. No one did it better. Ever.

Nitrus
04-30-2007, 11:41 AM
My name comes from when I first created a username on CS:S, I thought up "Nitrus" from one of my favorite chemicals, Nitrous Oxide. All I did was tke the "o" out.

Was that intentional, or did you misspell it?

Intentional, I wanted it to be pronounced "Nitrus". Short and sharp ending.

Mayberry
04-30-2007, 11:02 PM
Mayberry is my state of mind, my ideal place. Quiet, laid back, easy going. I loved the Andy Griffith Show as a kid, and I always wanted to live in a Mayberry-like town. I sorta do. Flour Bluff is a "suburb" of Corpus Christi, TX, (our address is Corpus Christi) population around 5000. It's a peninsula surrounded by the Oso Bay, Corpus Christi Bay, and the Laguna Madre. We're the "Gateway to Padre Island", just across the Laguna. Our southern border is the north fenceline of the King Ranch. We're out of the way, without being out of the way. We kinda have that "island" mentality going on here, hence my motto, "No shoes, no shirt, no problem".
