finally, something we see eye-to-eye. Exploration of all forms is cool.

Well it's not about Bush nor American soldiers dying...so no, probably not.

It was the subject of a major spread in today's Austin paper. It must be hard to maintain that bitterness full time.

Not if your Stoner.

This is a great find. Hopefully some more information can be found on this in the future. Was also reading that they usually don't look for planets that are orbiting a star like this because it normally doesn't support life. Interesting this one might be able to.

As for bitterness, conservatives have an abundance of that with a failed war on their hands and a direct representation that they are seriously out of touch with the world.

If we ever do find life on other planets I believe religion will face a crisis in the world. And if we ever find intelligent life...let's hope they don't believe in some God or else they will certainly destroy us as heretics. I just sincerely hope we do one day find life in the universe and that it's peaceful.

I hope that if we do one day find a planet with life that it's full of hot, naked redheads with no teeth and trick pelvic bones.

This is truly an astounding achievement. Sad that every time I flip by CNN and these other "news" stations all you see is Reid surrendering and the obsession with Rosie leaving the View.

how much is there really to say? your chart says it all. its not like we have an array of scientific instruments to look at this. I believe this is being done by gravitational light-lensing. I am not sure how they are determining the planet has water, or an atmosphere. That would require some sensitive spectrograph equipment, I know there is something of that nature on the Hubble, but for any better evaluations more devices are going to be needed that enhances our data-gathering.

Not so....

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, (Qur'aan 1:2)

The second verse of the whole Qur'aan says there is more than one world. Muslims would have no problem with it. :D

Apparently.... the planet is in the "Goldilocks Spot" just the right distance from its sun to serve as a habitable planet. Cool huh?

Oh great...so basically Islam and Scientology would survive. What a wonderful world that would be.

Scientology is a religion; I thought it was like an alternative to psychiatry or a weird alien voodoo cult.

Christianity would survive too. The people who don't take the bible to extremes will still follow the religion.

Scientology is a scam. I took one of their free personality tests one day and at the end they told me I was miserable and had to buy all these courses to fix myself up. Being told that kind of surprised me since at the time I couldn't have been happier with my life. Needless to say, I laughed and declined the offer :D

For some reason, science fiction writers have spent a lot of time with that theme. Naturally, I can't call any of the titles to mind right now, but trust me, they're out there. I really don't understand why many religious folk should find a major problem with it. Mankind generally learns to adapt, even if they do a crummy job of it. I suppose it might be a problem for some who hold to a peculiar literal interpretation of the Bible, and a few others--the ones who insist that only human beings will or can be fully self-aware.

There are some who believe that humans came from outer space, and sometimes that's just a way of denying our simian heritage, but others go into the whole spaceship and ancient civilization schtick. I am just sad that the chances of establishing contact with an alien intelligence are even smaller than my chances of ever winning the lottery.

On the other hand, since contact will most likely come as some kind of random event, I guess it could just as likely come during MY lifetime as someone else's.
