A friend of mine is from Bangkok, Thailand. We were talking to this liberal/spiritual love everyone/everything professor. I've talked to her before and she's the kind of person who thinks like this:

"Everyone is valuable, and you need to love and respect everyone. But you need to keep an open mind, and consider everything. Even though you don't agree with me now, if you keep an open mind one day you will see I'm right and realize how wrong you are."

In this conversation she was talking about holistic healing. First off, every time he stumbled she'd try to guess what he meant to say, usually something completely unrelated. For example, he'd say "When I was young, someone taught me.... uh....." And she'd say "Tai Chi?" "Zen?" and things like that. Even though the practices were from entirely different parts of Asia.

Finally she asks him, and this is the part that got me aggravated, she goes "And what did they do in your village?". I mean he's asian, he therefore must come from a huge family (he's an only child) and live in a grass house in some rural village, right? He just kind of stumbled when she asked that. I rolled my eyes and shook my head in disbelief.

He seemed surpised, possibly offended, by it, though I couldn't tell for sure. After one or two more questions the conversation ended. I tried to ask him about the statement, but he was running late and left before I get a hold of him.

The whole time she had this attitude of "Ahhh..... what a cute little foreigner. I want you to know that I think you're my equal, and I love your quaint culture.". She reminded me of the stereotypical bigot liberal. One who thinks she is so open, so tolerant, so respectful, but she's really the only one who thinks that.

He had previously complained to me that people tend to ignore him when he start to speaks, as he has a heavy accent, even though he is relatively easy to understand. He often just says nothing, since he doesn't want to get the eye rolls and blank stares he frequently gets. One time in particular that bothered him was during a music class he took. The professor was telling everyone how they did, both where they excelled and where they did poorly. He got up, did his thing, and the professor just said "Good". No comments, and nothing like the detailed review everyone else got.

I don't think she is the sterotypical liberal. She's the sterotypical closed minded ass.
