It is amazing in the modern 'information at your fingertips' environment that anyone would be dumb enough to take such a juvenile and dishonest action.

NEW YORK - A CBS News producer was fired and the network apologized after a Katie Couric video essay on libraries was found to be plagiarized from The Wall Street Journal.
The essay was removed from the CBS Web site and an editor's note was posted saying the item should have credited Jeffrey Zaslow of the Journal, the network said Tuesday.
The essays are carried regularly on "Couric & Co.," the anchor's blog on the CBS News Web site. Couric and producers meet once a week to decide on topics and the producers write them for Couric to read on camera.
An editor for The Wall Street Journal called CBS News to point out the similarities of the April 4 notebook item to Zaslow's article, headlined "Of the Places You'll Go, Is the Library Still One of Them?" The pieces talk about how libraries are seen differently by children from their parents.
"We were horrified," CBS News spokeswoman Sandra Genelius said. "It was almost verbatim."
CBS would not identify the producer fired for the transgression.
CBS is really having some credibility problems.

Same as CNN, ABC and NBC. Although CNN is pretty much the worse.

Sorry bout that,
1. But I call it the Neolib syndrome.
2. They are making themselves dumber than dirt, and duller than dish water.
3. So they copy others to at least say something.
4. That's how it is when you got squat, you rob others.

CWN, good to see you back.
While I agree that this was terrible and the producer should get axed for doing it, I don't think it's fair to use this incident to assault every major news outlet (with the notable exception of FOX) over it.
Really, is watching FOX anchors read the White House daily talking points word for word what you'd call good journalism? In-depth reporting? Balanced coverage?
This was a single boob at CBS, who's now asking folks if they'd like fries with their orders. No need to expand it beyond what it is... there's nobody on the grassy knoll.

Egads Scott, that has to be one of the more hypocritical comments I have seen posted here. Fox news no more reads whitehouse talking points as news any more than MSNBC or CNN reads the DNC talking points or the commentary of the nuts who have drowned out the moderate voices of the democratic party as news.

1. Thanks for the welcome ol buddy.
2. I wasn't really gone that long.
3. And I don't think this is the first time we've seen plagiarism being passed off as their own shtick.
4. To borrow another's words, and claim them your own is typical Neolib reality, on a daily bases.
5. Lets look at how Al Gore started this whole, *Global Warming* thing.
6. And the whole of the neolib nation parrots it as if its true.
7. I view Katie Couric as a wanna be Dan Rather, and she shall never fully fill his shoes, well he was a Texan, tough act to follow.
8. Now Dan Rather did some smack during an election thou, which was designed to over turn an election.
9. Till this day he stands firm on the story, which is LOLable.

Who or what did Gore plagiarize?

Chess I would like to hear this one too. I am no Gore fan, as most of the folks here know, but I don't recall any charges of plagiarism in his past.

Sorry bout that,
1. But I meant that the entire neolib media has been plagiarized Al Gore.
2. And now bombard on a daily bases, the stupid people of the world with the *Fact*, that the planet is getting hotter.
3. Even after the coldest winter in over 100 years.
4. Still every day we are hearing how such and such group of scientist claim Al Gore to be *Spot On!*
5. They be plagiarizing him now.
6. Or parroting the cause.
7. Same thing.

Are you sure plagiarize is the word you want to use here? It doesn't fit.
