LOS ANGELES - Tom Cruise dismissed the global warming report issued by the United Nations as "a load of pseudo-scientific hooey" that offers "temporary bromides" instead of real solutions to the world's temperature increases.

Addressing a group of reporters at his son's baseball game yesterday afternoon, Mr. Cruise demanded to know how many actually had read the UN report.

"Well, I have," said Mr. Cruise, "and it's nothing but a glib collection of charts, numbers, and Doppler radar maps—the kind of stuff that meteorologists try to impress people with. I don't know how these so-called scientists can predict the effects of global warming when they can't even get the weekend weather right half the time."

According to Mr. Cruise, the increases in annual temperatures observed since 1980 were not caused by greenhouse gases or "any other scientific fairy tales." He insisted that theories about the greenhouse-gas effect had about as much "scientific credibility" as the belief that chemical imbalances in the brain can cause depression.

The more I read about this man the more I think he needs the pacifier.

How about we reword that final sentence and to say "about as much scientific credibility as his religion."

Now wait, I wouldn't dismiss Tom Cruise so fast on this one. I admit I don't know too much about Scientology, but isn't he in the higher levels? Who would know more about climate change and global warming than someone that was sent here from another planet?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the scientologists believe that we (human beings) were sent here from another planet. I think it's just the Thetans that infest us that came from space. Of course, part of getting rid of the Thetans involves talking to them to help them recover their memories, so he may have 'special knowledge' that way...

Like i said, I don't know that much about them. I thought they were all decendents of Xenu or something like that......but you're description could be right also......all I know is they're weird, but then I guess I could say that about any religion that I don't know that much about.

Either way.....I guess neither of us is too far off.

Am I the only one who noticed the similarity between this and many typical arguments presented by ordinary people who think global warming is false?

True. We just get to make fun of him because he's nuts.

Also, I can't help but to notice the use of the word 'glib'. Is that Tom's favorite word or something? Does Scientology come with a 'word of the day' calendar or something? What's up with Tom describing everything he disagrees with (AKA anything connected with science) as 'glib'?

Not quite, Labrocca. Cindy Sheehan could never be as embarrassing to me as Cruise must be. She might be annoying, but she's not crazy. And she suffered a very real hurt. Did Tom Cruise lose a child?

Tom Cruise!?

Why would I pay attention to anyone that once ran a call girl service?

Or how about the time he yelled at Jack Nicholson, a Marine and war hero?

Or when he betrayed his country's interests by fighting on the side of the Samurai?

Or when he debased himself by begging over a telephone to keep a client and screaming, "show me the money". (Greedy bastard)

The guy has no moral values.

Tom Cruise is a dink, but this is amazing that he would pull against the Hollywood flow on this one. He's jumped right on the bandwagon with most everything else. Maybe he does posess an active brain cell or two..... nah. But it is nice to hear a Hollywood type saying something against the disaster de jour for a change.

Â*Now I know how the liberals must feel about Cindy Sheehan.

Well the libs loved her when she was spewing lies and hate at Bush and Republicans.Â*Â*

However now she's gotten off her leash and now biting back at the libs.Â*Â*

Poetic justice.Â*Â*Maybe the libs are thinking twice about giving an unstable, crazy, whacko idiot a platform.

As far as Tom Cruise goes, I heard him and Xenu were good friends and because of his experience as an F14 pilot in 'Top Gun' he's going to get to pilot the mothership back to a secret planet where L Ron Hubbard and the Smurfs are currently in hiding.

She is crazy and losing a child doesn't give you an excuse to be crazy.

Tom Cruise seems a bit crazy too and that's why I made the comparison.

Does any one think Mr. Tom is qualified enough to make such comments. Such comments made out of sheer ignorance should not be debated at all.

Global warming debunked
By ANDREW SWALLOW - The Timaru Herald | Saturday, 19 May 2007

Climate change will be considered a joke in five years time, meteorologist Augie Auer told the annual meeting of Mid Canterbury Federated Farmers in Ashburton this week.

Man's contribution to the greenhouse gases was so small we couldn't change the climate if we tried, he maintained.

"We're all going to survive this. It's all going to be a joke in five years," he said.

A combination of misinterpreted and misguided science, media hype, and political spin had created the current hysteria and it was time to put a stop to it.

"It is time to attack the myth of global warming," he said.

Water vapour was responsible for 95 per cent of the greenhouse effect, an effect which was vital to keep the world warm, he explained.

"If we didn't have the greenhouse effect the planet would be at minus 18 deg C but because we do have the greenhouse effect it is plus 15 deg C, all the time."

The other greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen dioxide, and various others including CFCs, contributed only five per cent of the effect, carbon dioxide being by far the greatest contributor at 3.6 per cent.

However, carbon dioxide as a result of man's activities was only 3.2 per cent of that, hence only 0.12 per cent of the greenhouse gases in total. Human-related methane, nitrogen dioxide and CFCs etc made similarly minuscule contributions to the effect: 0.066, 0.047 and 0.046 per cent respectively.

"That ought to be the end of the argument, there and then," he said.

"We couldn't do it (change the climate) even if we wanted to because water vapour dominates."

Yet the Greens continued to use phrases such as "The planet is groaning under the weight of CO2" and Government policies were about to hit industries such as farming, he warned.

"The Greens are really going to go after you because you put out 49 per cent of the countries emissions. Does anybody ask 49 per cent of what? Does anybody know how small that number is?

"It's become a witch-hunt; a Salem witch-hunt," he said.

No, Mark is referencing a report by Andrew Swallow (who ever that is).

I cant believe that global warming is a myth, driving through Knoxville, TN. there were smog advisories.....surrounded by trees. Guess Reagan was right about the trees. So what if a few people say global warming is a fraud, Tommy the expert should stick to alien conspiracy theories and space ships. We are changing our environment by our direct actions. Tune in soon for the next episode of craziness from our friend Tommy!
